In their hearts

  1.   21 And the Lord smelled a sweet asavour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again bcurse the ground any more cfor man’s sake; for the dimagination of man’s heart is eevil from his youth; neither will I again fsmite any more every thing living, as I have done.

  6.   8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the awaters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an bheap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.
  7.   6 And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are awise hearted I have put bwisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;
  8.   34 And he hath put in his heart that he may ateach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.
  9.   2 And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose aheart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:
  10.   17 ¶ Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine aheart: thou shalt in any wise brebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
  11.   39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is aGod in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
  12.   6 And these awords, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine bheart:
  13.   17 If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
  14.   2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to ahumble thee, and to bprove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
          •  •  •
      5 Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man achasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee.
          •  •  •
      17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
  15.   4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my arighteousness the Lord hath bbrought me in to possess this land: but for the cwickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee.
  16.   18 ¶ Therefore shall ye alay up these my bwords in your cheart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your dhand, that they may be as efrontlets between your eyes.
  17.   21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we aknow the word which the Lord hath not spoken?

  29.   17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an ahouse for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

  36.   11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
  37.   7 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

Thus did Job continually.

            •  •  •
        11 He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
            •  •  •
        13 Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
    3.   2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily ashoot at the upright in heart.

    5.   1 aThe bfool hath said in his heart, There is cno dGod. They are ecorrupt, they have done abominable works, there is fnone that doeth good.
    6.   2 He that awalketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
    7.   3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which aspeak bpeace to their neighbours, but cmischief is in their hearts.
    8.   11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
    9.   25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
    10.   10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
    11.   31 The alaw of his God is in his bheart; none of his steps shall slide.
    12.   5 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
    13.   1 The afool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is bnone that doeth good.
    14.   21 The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
    15.   2 Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
    16.   10 The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall atrust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.
    17.   18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not ahear me:

    19.   18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking ameat for their blust.
    20.   5 Blessed is the man whose astrength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
    21.   15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
    22.   10 aForty years long was I bgrieved with this cgeneration, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:
    23.   11 aLight is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
    24.   16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the apoor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
    25.   11 Thy aword have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
    26.   4 Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.
    27.   2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
    28.   3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
    29.   14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
            •  •  •
        25 aLust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
    30.   8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
    31.   20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
            •  •  •
        25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

    33.   5 Every one that is aproud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
            •  •  •
        21 The wise in heart shall be called aprudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
    34.   5 aCounsel in the bheart of man is like deep cwater; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
    35.   15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
    36.   7 For as he athinketh in his bheart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

    38.   1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with amirth, therefore enjoy bpleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.
            •  •  •
        3 I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.
            •  •  •
        15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more awise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
    39.   11 He hath made every thing abeautiful in his time: also he bhath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the cwork that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
            •  •  •
        17 I said in mine heart, God shall ajudge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
        18 I said in mine heart concerning the aestate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are bbeasts.
    40.   1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
            •  •  •
        3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the adead.
    41.   7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither adoth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
    42.   13 For thou hast said in thine aheart, bI will ascend into heaven, I will cexalt my dthrone above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the enorth:
    43.   19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the astock of a tree?
    44.   8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a awidow, neither shall I know the bloss of children:
            •  •  •
        10 ¶ For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None aseeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
    45.   21 Then shalt athou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am bdesolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?
    46.   7 ¶ Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose aheart is my law; bfear ye not the creproach of dmen, neither be ye afraid of their erevilings.
    47.   4 For the day of avengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my bredeemed is come.
    48.   24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain, both athe former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
    49.   8 Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in aheart he layeth his wait.
            •  •  •
        26 Egypt, and Judah, and aEdom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
    50.   22 ¶ And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy askirts bdiscovered, and thy heels made bare.

    51.   9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a aburning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not bstay.
    52.   26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
    53.   33 But this shall be the acovenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my blaw in their inward parts, and write it in their chearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
    54.   40 And I will make an aeverlasting bcovenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
    55.   20 For ye adissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the Lord your God, saying, Pray for us unto the Lord our God; and according unto all that the Lord our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.
    56.   10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
    57.   3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their ainiquity before their face: should I be benquired of at all by cthem?
        4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the astumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
            •  •  •
        7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the Lord will answer him by myself:
    58.   6 For thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all thy adespite against the land of Israel;
    59.   7 In that ye have brought into my sanctuary astrangers, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to bpollute it, even my house, when ye offer my cbread, the dfat and the eblood, and they have broken my fcovenant because of all your abominations.
            •  •  •
        9 ¶ Thus saith the Lord God; No stranger, auncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
    60.   8 ¶ But Daniel apurposed in his heart that he would not bdefile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the cwine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
    61.   28 Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my acogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.
    62.   25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and aby peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken bwithout hand.
    63.   2 And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own adoings have beset them about; they are before my face.
    64.   3 ¶ The apride of thine bheart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
    65.   12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are asettled on their blees: that say in their heart, The Lord will cnot do good, neither will he do evil.
    66.   15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and awag his hand.
    67.   10 And aoppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the bpoor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
    68.   17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no afalse oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord.
    69.   5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God.
    70.   8 Blessed are the apure in bheart: for they shall csee God.
            •  •  •
        28 But I say unto you, That whosoever alooketh on a bwoman to clust after her hath committed dadultery with her already in his heart.
    71.   4 And Jesus aknowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
    72.   29 Take my ayoke upon you, and blearn of me; for I am cmeek and dlowly in eheart: and ye shall find frest unto your souls.
    73.   40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be athree days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
    74.   19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and aunderstandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and bcatcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
    75.   48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord adelayeth his coming;
    76.   6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
            •  •  •
        8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
    77.   15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, aSatan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
    78.   23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not adoubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
    79.   66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
    80.   19 But Mary kept all these things, and apondered them in her heart.
            •  •  •
        51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was asubject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her bheart.
    81.   15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men amused in their hearts of bJohn, whether he were the Christ, or not;
    82.   22 But when Jesus aperceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
    83.   45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and amaidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
    84.   14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to ameditate before what ye shall banswer:
    85.   38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do athoughts arise in your hearts?
    86.   37 ¶ Now when they heard this, they were apricked in their bheart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, cwhat shall we do?
    87.   4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not alied unto men, but unto bGod.
    88.   39 To whom our fathers would not aobey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
            •  •  •
        51 ¶ Ye astiffnecked and buncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always cresist the dHoly Ghost: as your efathers did, so do ye.
    89.   15 aWhich shew the work of the blaw written in their hearts, their cconscience also bearing dwitness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
    90.   5 And ahope maketh not ashamed; because the blove of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
    91.   2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
    92.   6 But the arighteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
            •  •  •
        8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
        9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
    93.   37 Nevertheless, he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
    94.   22 Who hath also asealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
    95.   2 Ye are our aepistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
    96.   6 For God, who acommanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath bshined in our hearts, to give the clight of the knowledge of the dglory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
    97.   12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
    98.   3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.
    99.   7 Every man according as he apurposeth in his heart, so let him give; not bgrudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a ccheerful dgiver.
    100.   17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being arooted and bgrounded in love,
    101.   19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and ahymns and spiritual songs, singing and making bmelody in your heart to the Lord;
    102.   7 Even as it is ameet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and bconfirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my cgrace.
    103.   15 And let the apeace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye bthankful.
        16 Let the aword of Christ dwell in you richly in all bwisdom; cteaching and admonishing one another in psalms and dhymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
    104.   17 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your aface with great desire.
    105.   10 Wherefore I was grieved with that ageneration, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
    106.   10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my alaws into their bmind, and write them in their chearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
    107.   14 But if ye have bitter envying and astrife in your hearts, bglory not, and lie not against the truth.
    108.   15 But asanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give ban answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the chope that is in you with dmeekness and efear:
    109.   19 aWe have also a more bsure word of cprophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day dstar arise in your hearts:
    110.   17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and agive their kingdom unto the beast, until the bwords of God shall be fulfilled.
    111.   7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived adeliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
    112.   10 And it came to pass that I was aconstrained by the Spirit that I should kill Laban; but I said in my heart: Never at any time have I shed the blood of man. And I shrunk and would that I might not slay him.
    113.   8 And now I, Nephi, being agrieved for the hardness of their hearts, therefore I spake unto them, saying, yea, even unto Laman and unto Lemuel: Behold ye are mine elder brethren, and how is it that ye are so hard in your hearts, and so blind in your minds, that ye have need that I, your byounger brother, should speak unto you, yea, and set an cexample for you?
    114.   1 For it came to pass after I had desired to know the things that my father had seen, and believing that the Lord was able to make them known unto me, as I sat apondering in mine heart I was bcaught away in the Spirit of the Lord, yea, into an exceedingly high cmountain, which I never had before seen, and upon which I never had before set my foot.
            •  •  •
        22 And I answered him, saying: Yea, it is the alove of God, which bsheddeth itself abroad in the hearts of the children of men; wherefore, it is the cmost desirable above all things.
    115.   3 For he truly spake many great things unto them, which were hard to be aunderstood, save a man should inquire of the Lord; and they being hard in their hearts, therefore they did not look unto the Lord as they ought.
    116.   19 And now it came to pass that I, Nephi, was exceedingly sorrowful because of the hardness of their hearts; and now when they saw that I began to be sorrowful they were glad in their hearts, insomuch that they did arejoice over me, saying: We knew that ye could not construct a ship, for we knew that ye were lacking in judgment; wherefore, thou canst not accomplish so great a work.
            •  •  •
        44 Wherefore, the Lord acommanded my father that he should depart into the wilderness; and the Jews also sought to take away his life; yea, and bye also have sought to take away his life; wherefore, ye are murderers in your hearts and ye are like unto them.
            •  •  •
        46 And ye also know that by the apower of his almighty word he can cause the earth that it shall pass away; yea, and ye know that by his word he can cause the rough places to be made smooth, and smooth places shall be broken up. O, then, why is it, that ye can be so hard in your hearts?
    117.   21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart: Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am adesolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? And who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where have they been?
    118.   21 And now that my soul might have joy in you, and that my heart might leave this world with gladness because of you, that I might not be brought down with grief and sorrow to the grave, arise from the dust, my sons, and be amen, and be determined in bone mind and in one heart, united in all things, that ye may not come down into captivity;
    119.   27 And why should I ayield to sin, because of my flesh? Yea, why should I give way to btemptations, that the evil one have place in my heart to destroy my cpeace and afflict my soul? Why am I dangry because of mine enemy?
    120.   7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart I have written my law, afear ye not the breproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their crevilings.
    121.   7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but in his heart it is to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
    122.   13 For thou hast said in thy heart: aI will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north;
    123.   9 Yea, and there shall be many which shall teach after this manner, afalse and vain and bfoolish cdoctrines, and shall be puffed up in their hearts, and shall seek deep to hide their counsels from the Lord; and their works shall be in the dark.
            •  •  •
        13 They arob the bpoor because of their fine sanctuaries; they rob the poor because of their fine clothing; and they persecute the meek and the poor in heart, because in their cpride they are puffed up.
            •  •  •
        20 For behold, at that day shall he arage in the bhearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.
    124.   1 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, I suppose that ye ponder somewhat in your hearts concerning that which ye should do after ye have entered in by the way. But, behold, why do ye ponder these things in your hearts?
            •  •  •
        8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the aSpirit which teacheth a man to bpray ye would know that ye must cpray; for the devil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.
    125.   15 And now it came to pass that the people of Nephi, under the reign of the second king, began to grow hard in their hearts, and indulge themselves somewhat in wicked practices, such as like unto David of old desiring many awives and bconcubines, and also Solomon, his son.
    126.   10 But, notwithstanding the greatness of the task, I must do according to the strict acommands of God, and tell you concerning your wickedness and abominations, in the presence of the pure in heart, and the broken heart, and under the glance of the bpiercing eye of the Almighty God.
            •  •  •
        20 And now, my brethren, I have spoken unto you concerning pride; and those of you which have afflicted your neighbor, and persecuted him because ye were proud in your hearts, of the things which God hath given you, what say ye of it?
    127.   1 But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and apray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will bconsole you in your cafflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down djustice upon those who seek your destruction.
        2 O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his alove; for ye may, if your bminds are cfirm, forever.
        3 But, wo, wo, unto you that are not pure in heart, that are filthy this day before God; for except ye repent the land is acursed for your sakes; and the Lamanites, which are not bfilthy like unto you, nevertheless they are ccursed with a sore cursing, shall scourge you even unto destruction.
    128.   6 And he shall cast out adevils, or the bevil spirits which dwell in the hearts of the children of men.
    129.   24 And again, I say unto the poor, ye who have not and yet have sufficient, that ye remain from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not; I would that ye say in your hearts that: I agive not because I bhave not, but if I had I would cgive.
        25 And now, if ye say this in your hearts ye remain guiltless, otherwise ye are acondemned; and your condemnation is just for ye covet that which ye have not received.
    130.   2 And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty achange in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do bevil, but to do good continually.
            •  •  •
        12 I say unto you, I would that ye should remember to aretain the name written always in your hearts, that ye are not found on the left hand of God, but that ye hear and know the voice by which ye shall be called, and also, the name by which he shall call you.
    131.   11 And now I read unto you the remainder of the acommandments of God, for I perceive that they are not written in your hearts; I perceive that ye have studied and taught biniquity the most part of your lives.
    132.   19 Now they had sworn in their hearts that they would return to the land of Nephi, and if their awives and their children were slain, and also those that had tarried with them, that they would seek revenge, and also perish with them.
    133.   8 Now this did cause much joy in the hearts of those who were against him; but Amlici did stir up those who were in his favor to anger against those who were not in his favor.
    134.   12 And according to his faith there was a mighty achange wrought in his heart. Behold I say unto you that this is all true.
        13 And behold, he apreached the word unto your fathers, and a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their btrust in the true and cliving God. And behold, they were faithful until the dend; therefore they were saved.
        14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye aspiritually been bborn of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty cchange in your hearts?
    135.   25 And now thou hast lied before God unto me. Thou saidst unto me—Behold these six onties, which are of great worth, I will give unto thee—when thou hadst it in thy heart to retain them from me; and it was only thy desire that I should deny the true and living God, that thou mightest have cause to destroy me. And now behold, for this great evil thou shalt have thy reward.
    136.   29 aHaving faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the blove of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his crest.
    137.   35 Then why sayest thou that we preach unto this people to get gain, when thou, of thyself, knowest that we receive no gain? And now, believest thou that we deceive this people, that acauses such joy in their hearts?
    138.   3 Therefore they were not permitted to enter into their synagogues to worship God, being esteemed as filthiness; therefore they were poor; yea, they were esteemed by their brethren as adross; therefore they were bpoor as to things of the world; and also they were poor in heart.
        4 Now, as Alma was teaching and speaking unto the people upon the hill aOnidah, there came a great bmultitude unto him, who were those of whom we have been speaking, of whom were cpoor in heart, because of their poverty as to the things of the world.
            •  •  •
        8 I behold that ye are alowly in heart; and if so, blessed are ye.
            •  •  •
        28 Now, we will compare the word unto a aseed. Now, if ye give place, that a bseed may be planted in your cheart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your dunbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to eenlighten my funderstanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.
    139.   1 Now after Alma had spoken these words, they sent forth unto him desiring to know whether they should believe in aone God, that they might obtain this fruit of which he had spoken, or bhow they should plant the cseed, or the word of which he had spoken, which he said must be planted in their hearts; or in what manner they should begin to exercise their faith.
            •  •  •
        23 And now, my brethren, I desire that ye shall aplant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell even so nourish it by your faith. And behold, it will become a tree, bspringing up in you unto ceverlasting life. And then may God grant unto you that your dburdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do if ye ewill. Amen.
    140.   4 Yea, even that ye would have so much faith as even to aplant the word in your hearts, that ye may try the experiment of its goodness.
            •  •  •
        36 And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in aunholy temples, but in the bhearts of the crighteous doth he dwell; yea, and he has also said that the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom, to go no more out; but their garments should be made white through the dblood of the Lamb.
    141.   33 aPreach unto them repentance, and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ; teach them to humble themselves and to be bmeek and lowly in heart; teach them to cwithstand every dtemptation of the devil, with their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ.
        34 Teach them to never be weary of good works, but to be meek and lowly in heart; for such shall find arest to their souls.
    142.   30 O my son, I desire that ye should deny the ajustice of God no more. Do not endeavor to excuse yourself in the least point because of your sins, by denying the justice of God; but do you let the justice of God, and his bmercy, and his long-suffering have full sway in your heart; and let it bring you down to the dust in chumility.
    143.   24 But they grew proud, being lifted up in their hearts, because of their exceedingly great ariches; therefore they grew rich in their own eyes, and would not give heed to their words, to bwalk uprightly before God.
    144.   4 Now behold, this was the desire of Amalickiah; for he being a very asubtle man to do evil therefore he laid the plan in his heart to bdethrone the king of the Lamanites.
    145.   13 And it came to pass that when the men who were called king-men had heard that the Lamanites were coming down to battle against them, they were glad in their hearts; and they refused to take up arms, for they were so wroth with the chief judge, and also with the apeople of bliberty, that they would not take up arms to defend their country.
    146.   19 Or is it that ye have neglected us because ye are in the heart of our country and ye are asurrounded by security, that ye do not cause food to be sent unto us, and also men to strengthen our armies?
    147.   3 And it came to pass as he was thus pondering—being much cast down because of the wickedness of the people of the Nephites, their secret works of darkness, and their murderings, and their plunderings, and all manner of iniquities—and it came to pass as he was thus pondering in his heart, behold, a avoice came unto him saying:
    148.   22 And many more things did the people aimagine up in their hearts, which were foolish and bvain; and they were much disturbed, for Satan did stir them up to do iniquity continually; yea, he did go about spreading crumors and contentions upon all the face of the land, that he might harden the hearts of the people against that which was good and against that which should come.
    149.   1 And it came to pass that thus passed away the ninety and fifth year also, and the people began to forget those asigns and wonders which they had heard, and began to be less and less astonished at a sign or a wonder from heaven, insomuch that they began to be hard in their hearts, and blind in their minds, and began to disbelieve all which they had heard and seen—
        2 aImagining up some vain thing in their hearts, that it was wrought by men and by the power of the devil, to lead away and bdeceive the hearts of the people; and thus did Satan get possession of the hearts of the people again, insomuch that he did blind their eyes and lead them away to believe that the doctrine of Christ was a cfoolish and a vain thing.
    150.   5 But as many as there were who did not enter into a covenant, and who did still continue to have those asecret murders in their hearts, yea, as many as were found breathing out threatenings against their brethren were condemned and punished according to the law.

    1.   8 And blessed are all the apure in heart, for they shall bsee God.
            •  •  •
        28 But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman, to alust after her, hath committed adultery already in his heart.
    2.   33 And the multitude did hear and do bear record; and their ahearts were open and they did understand in their hearts the words which he prayed.
    3.   1 And it came to pass that he commanded the multitude that they should acease to bpray, and also his disciples. And he commanded them that they should not cease to pray in their hearts.
    4.   5 And they sorrowed in their hearts, for they durst not speak unto him the thing which they desired.
    5.   3 And ye need not imagine in your hearts that the words which have been spoken are vain, for behold, the Lord will remember his covenant which he hath made unto his people of the house of Israel.
    6.   15 And it came to pass that there was no acontention in the land, because of the blove of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people.
            •  •  •
        43 And also the people who were called the people of Nephi began to be proud in their hearts, because of their exceeding riches, and become avain like unto their brethren, the Lamanites.
    7.   2 He saw that there had been slain by the sword already nearly atwo millions of his people, and he began to sorrow in his heart; yea, there had been slain two millions of mighty men, and also their wives and their children.
    8.   32 And by so doing, the Lord God prepareth the way that the aresidue of men may have bfaith in Christ, that the Holy Ghost may have place in their hearts, according to the power thereof; and after this manner bringeth to pass the Father, the covenants which he hath made unto the children of men.
            •  •  •
        44 If so, his afaith and hope is vain, for none is bacceptable before God, save the cmeek and lowly in heart; and if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and dconfesses by the power of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ, he must needs have charity; for if he have not charity he is nothing; wherefore he must needs have charity.
    9.   3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how amerciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and bponder it in your chearts.
    10.   2 And ahe shall plant in the hearts of the children the bpromises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.
    11.   20 Behold, thou art Oliver, and I have spoken unto thee because of thy desires; therefore atreasure up these words in thy heart. Be faithful and bdiligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I will encircle thee in the arms of my clove.
            •  •  •
        22 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might aknow concerning the truth of these things.
    12.   2 Yea, behold, I will atell you in your mind and in your bheart, by the cHoly Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.
    13.   16 And then, behold, they say and think in their hearts—We will see if God has given him power to translate; if so, he will also give him power again;
    14.   26 Therefore, atreasure up in your bheart until the time which is in my wisdom that you shall go forth.
    15.   28 And again, I command thee that thou shalt apray bvocally as well as in thy heart; yea, before the world as well as in secret, in public as well as in private.
    16.   40 And again, thou shalt not be aproud in thy bheart; let all thy cgarments be plain, and their dbeauty the beauty of the ework of thine own hands;
    17.   34 Hearken ye to these words. Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the aSavior of the world. bTreasure these things up in your hearts, and let the csolemnities of deternity erest upon your fminds.
    18.   55 And aSatan shall be bbound, that he shall have no place in the hearts of the children of men.
    19.   18 But blessed are the apoor who are pure in heart, whose hearts are broken, and whose spirits are bcontrite, for they shall see the ckingdom of God coming in power and great glory unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the dearth shall be theirs.
    20.   33 Then they asay in their hearts: This is not the work of the Lord, for his promises are not fulfilled. But wo unto such, for their breward lurketh cbeneath, and not from above.
    21.   16 And it shall be said in days to come that none is able to go up to the land of Zion upon the waters, but he that is upright in heart.
    22.   16 And verily I say unto you, as I have said before, he that alooketh on a woman to blust after her, or if any shall commit cadultery in their hearts, they shall not have the dSpirit, but shall deny the faith and shall fear.
            •  •  •
        55 And now behold, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, am not pleased with my servant aSidney Rigdon; he bexalted himself in his heart, and received not counsel, but cgrieved the Spirit;
            •  •  •
        57 And again, verily I say unto you, athose who desire in their hearts, in meekness, to bwarn sinners to repentance, let them be ordained unto this power.
    23.   8 My disciples, in days of old, sought aoccasion against one another and forgave not one another in their hearts; and for this bevil they were cafflicted and sorely dchastened.
            •  •  •
        11 And ye ought to say in your hearts—let God ajudge between me and thee, and breward thee according to thy cdeeds.
            •  •  •
        16 They sought aevil in their hearts, and I, the Lord, bwithheld my Spirit. They ccondemned for evil that thing in which there was no evil; nevertheless I have forgiven my servant Isaac Morley.
    24.   3 Ye endeavored to abelieve that ye should receive the blessing which was offered unto you; but behold, verily I say unto you there were bfears in your hearts, and verily this is the reason that ye did not receive.
            •  •  •
        5 Your eyes have been upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and his alanguage you have known, and his imperfections you have known; and you have sought in your hearts knowledge that you might express beyond his language; this you also know.
    25.   3 Therefore, verily I acknowledge him and will bless him, and also thee, inasmuch as thou art faithful in counsel, in the office which I have appointed unto you, in prayer always, vocally and in thy heart, in public and in private, also in thy aministry in proclaiming the gospel in the bland of the living, and among thy brethren.
    26.   88 And whoso areceiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go bbefore your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my cSpirit shall be in your hearts, and mine dangels round about you, to bear you up.
    27.   3 And after they have fallen asleep the great persecutor of the church, the apostate, the awhore, even bBabylon, that maketh all nations to drink of her cup, in whose hearts the enemy, even Satan, sitteth to reign—behold he soweth the ctares; wherefore, the tares choke the wheat and drive the dchurch into the wilderness.
    28.   3 Wherefore, I now send upon you another aComforter, even upon you my friends, that it may abide in your hearts, even the Holy Spirit of bpromise; which other Comforter is the same that I promised unto my disciples, as is recorded in the testimony of John.
            •  •  •
        62 And again, verily I say unto you, my afriends, I leave these bsayings with you to cponder in your hearts, with this commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall dcall upon me while I am near—

        71 And let those whom they have warned in their traveling call on the Lord, and aponder the bwarning in their hearts which they have received, for a little season.
    29.   4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of aevils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of bconspiring men in the last days, I have cwarned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—
    30.   16 Yea, and my apresence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the bpure in heart that shall come into it shall see God.

        21 Therefore, verily, thus saith the Lord, let Zion rejoice, for this is aZion—THE PURE IN HEART; therefore, let Zion rejoice, while all the wicked shall mourn.
    31.   14 Therefore, be not aafraid of your enemies, for I have decreed in my heart, saith the Lord, that I will bprove you in all things, whether you will abide in my covenant, ceven unto death, that you may be found worthy.
    32.   18 They that remain, and are pure in heart, shall return, and come to their ainheritances, they and their children, with bsongs of everlasting joy, to cbuild up the waste places of Zion—
    33.   5 For I, the Lord, have decreed in my heart, that inasmuch as any man belonging to the order shall be found a transgressor, or, in other words, shall break the acovenant with which ye are bound, he shall be cursed in his life, and shall be trodden down by whom I will;
    34.   2 Verily I say unto you, there have been some few things in thine heart and with thee with which I, the Lord, was not well pleased.
    35.   2 While the pure in heart, and the wise, and the noble, and the virtuous, shall seek acounsel, and authority, and blessings constantly from under thy hand.
    36.   11 And also it is an imperative duty that we owe to all the rising generation, and to all the pure in heart
    37.   54 For I am the Lord your God, and will save all those of your brethren who have been apure in heart, and have been bslain in the land of Missouri, saith the Lord.
    38.   51 And I have atrampled them in my fury, and I did tread upon them in mine anger, and their blood have I bsprinkled upon my garments, and stained all my raiment; for this was the cday of vengeance which was in my heart.
    39.   47 The Prophet Elijah was to plant in the ahearts of the children the promises made to their fathers,
    40.   15 And the children of amen were numerous upon all the face of the land. And in those days bSatan had great cdominion among men, and raged in their hearts; and from thenceforth came dwars and bloodshed; and a man’s hand was against his own brother, in administering death, because of esecret fworks, seeking for gpower.

        55 And the Lord spake unto Adam, saying: Inasmuch as thy children are aconceived in sin, even so when they begin to grow up, bsin conceiveth in their hearts, and they taste the cbitter, that they may know to prize the good.
    41.   12 Now, after the Lord had withdrawn from speaking to me, and withdrawn his face from me, I said in my heart: Thy servant has asought thee earnestly; now I have found thee;
    42.   17 Now, if there be two things, one above the other, and the moon be above the earth, then it may be that a planet or a star may exist above it; and there is nothing that the Lord thy God shall take in his heart to do but what he will ado it.
    43.   51 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord adelayeth his coming,
    44.   25 So it was with me. I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two aPersonages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was bhated and cpersecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true; and while they were persecuting me, reviling me, and speaking all manner of evil against me dfalsely for so saying, I was led to say in my heart: Why persecute me for telling the truth? I have actually seen a vision; and who am I that I can withstand God, or why does the world think to make me deny what I have actually seen? For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not edeny it, neither dared I do it; at least I knew that by so doing I would offend God, and come under condemnation.

        39 He also quoted the next verse differently: And he shall plant in the hearts of the achildren the bpromises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.
