Wise men

  1. 8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was atroubled; and he sent and called for all the bmagicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
    • • •
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
  2. 11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the asorcerers: now the bmagicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
  3. 1 Then wrought aBezaleel and Aholiab, and bevery wise hearted man, in whom the Lord put cwisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work dfor the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the Lord had commanded.
2 And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose aheart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it:
    • • •
    4 And all the awise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made;
    • • •
8 ¶ And every wise hearted man among them that wrought the work of the tabernacle amade ten bcurtains of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: with cherubims of cunning work made he them.
  4. 13 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will amake them brulers over you.
    • • •
15 So I took the chief of your tribes, awise men, and known, and made them bheads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.
  5. 9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.
  6. 32 Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a acounsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:
  7. 13 ¶ Then the king said to the awise men, which knew the btimes, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew law and judgment:
  8. 13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
  9. 12 For avain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.
  10. 2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
    • • •
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
  11. 10 But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
  12. 2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
  13. 9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
  14. 2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
    • • •
34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
  15. 24 Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
  16. 10 For he seeth that wise men adie, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
  17. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase alearning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
  18. 8 aReprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will blove thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: ateach a just man, and he will bincrease in clearning.
  19. 14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the amouth of the foolish is near destruction.
  20. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
  21. 16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is aconfident.
  22. 20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a afoolish man despiseth his bmother.
  23. 14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
  24. 10 A areproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
    • • •
28 Even a fool, when he aholdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that bshutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
  25. 20 There is atreasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man bspendeth it up.
    • • •
22 A awise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
  26. 5 A wise man is astrong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
  27. 12 Seest thou a man wise in his own aconceit? there is more hope of a bfool than of him.
  28. 7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of ariotous men bshameth his father.
    • • •
11 The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the apoor that hath understanding searcheth him out.
  29. 8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
    • • •
11 A fool auttereth all his bmind: but a cwise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
  30. 16 For there is no aremembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how bdieth the wise man? as the fool.
    • • •
19 And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
  31. 5 It is better to hear the arebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
    • • •
7 ¶ Surely oppression maketh a wise man amad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
    • • •
19 aWisdom bstrengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.
  32. 1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to ashine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
    • • •
17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the awork that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a bwise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
  33. 1 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
    • • •
11 ¶ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the aswift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
    • • •
15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
    • • •
17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
  34. 12 Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the Lord of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
  35. 14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a amarvellous bwork among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the cwisdom of their wise men shall dperish, and the eunderstanding of their fprudent men shall be hid.
  36. 25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth awise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
  37. 9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have arejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?
  38. 12 ¶ Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
    • • •
23 ¶ Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his ariches:
  39. 7 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the awise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none blike unto thee.
  40. 35 ¶ A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
  41. 57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.
  42. 8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.
9 The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy acalkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to boccupy thy merchandise.
  43. 12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.
14 ¶ Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
    • • •
18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
    • • •
24 ¶ Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
    • • •
    27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the aastrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
    • • •
48 Then the king made Daniel a agreat man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
  44. 6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the awise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
    • • •
18 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the aspirit of the bholy gods is in thee.
  45. 7 The king cried aloud to bring in the aastrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
8 Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
    • • •
15 And now the wise men, the aastrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
  46. 8 Shall I not in athat day, saith the Lord, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
  47. 1 Now when Jesus was aborn in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
    • • •
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
    • • •
16 ¶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was amocked of the wise men, bwas exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and cslew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the dcoasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
  48. 24 ¶ Therefore whosoever aheareth these sayings of mine, and bdoeth them, cI will liken him unto a dwise man, which ebuilt his house upon fa rock:
  49. 34 ¶ Wherefore, behold, I send unto you aprophets, and wise men, and bscribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
  50. 41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a awork which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
  51. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but acondescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own bconceits.
  52. 19 For your aobedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you bwise unto that which is good, and csimple concerning evil.
  53. 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the aflesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are bcalled:
  54. 10 According to the agrace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
    • • •
18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you aseemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a bfool, that he may be cwise.
  55. 5 I speak to your ashame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
  56. 15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
  57. 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good aconversation his works with bmeekness of wisdom.
  58. 28 O that cunning aplan of the evil one! O the bvainness, and the frailties, and the cfoolishness of men! When they are dlearned they think they are ewise, and they fhearken not unto the gcounsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their hwisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish.
  59. 11 Therefore I will be your king the remainder of my days; nevertheless, let aus appoint bjudges, to judge this people according to our law; and we will newly arrange the affairs of this people, for we will appoint wise men to be judges, that will judge this people according to the commandments of God.
  60. 1 And it came to pass in the commencement of the
  61. 16 And he selected a wise man who was among the aelders of the church, and gave him power according to the bvoice of the people, that he might have power to enact claws according to the laws which had been given, and to put them in force according to the wickedness and the crimes of the people.
  62. 24 And now it came to pass that the people were more angry with Amulek, and they cried out, saying: This man doth revile against our laws which are just, and our wise alawyers whom we have selected.
  63. 23 And now, he imparteth his word by angels unto men, yea, anot only men but women also. Now this is not all; little bchildren do have words given unto them many times, which cconfound the wise and the learned.
  64. 14 And aangels did appear unto men, wise men, and did declare unto them glad tidings of great joy; thus in this year the scriptures began to be fulfilled.
  65. 24 Therefore, whoso heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a arock
  66. 17 A acertificate from the judge or bishop in this part of the vineyard, unto the bishop in Zion, rendereth every man acceptable, and answereth all things, for an inheritance, and to be received as a wise bsteward and as a faithful claborer;
  67. 10 Wherefore, ahonest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.
  68. 73 And let honorable men be appointed, even awise men, and send them to purchase these lands.
    • • •
80 And for this purpose have I established the aConstitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the bshedding of blood.
    • • •
    94 That wise men and rulers may hear and know that which they have never aconsidered;
  69. 23 And let all the churches send up wise men with their moneys, and apurchase lands even as I have commanded them.
  70. 28 And to have sent awise men, to fulfil that which I have commanded concerning the bpurchasing of all the lands in Jackson county that can be purchased, and in the adjoining counties round about.
