And it came to pass that as I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memoryof my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world.

And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memoryof my sins no more.

And now, it has hitherto been wisdom in God that these things should be preserved; for behold, they have enlarged the memoryof this people, yea, and convinced many of the error of their ways, and brought them to the knowledge of their God unto the salvation of their souls.

And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memoryof our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.
