Tempt God

  1. 16 ¶ Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
  2. 18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
    • • •
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
  3. 14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
  4. 15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
  5. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
  6. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
  7. 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
  8. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
  9. 14 And I said unto him: What am I that I should tempt God to show unto thee a sign in the thing which thou knowest to be true? Yet thou wilt deny it, because thou art of the devil. Nevertheless, not my will be done; but if God shall smite thee, let that be a sign unto thee that he has power, both in heaven and in earth; and also, that Christ shall come. And thy will, O Lord, be done, and not mine.
  10. 44 But Alma said unto him: Thou hast had signs enough; will ye tempt your God? Will ye say, Show unto me a sign, when ye have the testimony of all these thy brethren, and also all the holy prophets? The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator.
  11. 15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
  12. 15 For behold, he has put it into their hearts to get thee to tempt the Lord thy God, in asking to translate it over again.

29 Now, behold, they have altered these words, because Satan saith unto them: He hath deceived you—and thus he flattereth them away to do iniquity, to get thee to tempt the Lord thy God.
