¶ And Saul said, Letus go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and letusnot leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Letus draw near hither unto God.

And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, letusnot all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.

¶ Then said they, Come, and letus devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and letus smite him with the tongue, and letusnot give heed to any of his words.

Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, letusnot perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.

They said therefore among themselves, Letusnot
rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture
might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and
for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers
did.

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, letusnot fight against God.
