But that

  1.   4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

  2.   6 Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

  3.   34 And bring your youngest brother unto me: then shall I know that ye are no spies, but that ye are true men: so will I deliver you your brother, and ye shall traffick in the land.

  4.   29 But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

  5.   36 Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcase shall be unclean.

  6.   15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

  7.   38 ¶ But those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

  8.   4 But ye that did cleave unto the Lord your God are alive every one of you this day.

  9.   3 Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

  10.   20 For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

  11.   18 But that ye must turn away this day from following the Lord? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to day against the Lord, that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.
          •  •  •

27 But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the Lord before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the Lord.

  12.   2 And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.

  13.   16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord?

  14.   2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.

  15.   12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

  16.   12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

  17.   5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

  18.   3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.

  19.   10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.

  20.   10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

  21.   9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

  22.   9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

  23.   36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

  24.   5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
          •  •  •

9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
          •  •  •

17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
          •  •  •

19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

  25.   13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
          •  •  •

17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
          •  •  •

27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

  26.   1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
          •  •  •

4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
          •  •  •

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
          •  •  •

11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
          •  •  •

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
          •  •  •

22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

  27.   3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
          •  •  •

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
          •  •  •

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
          •  •  •

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
          •  •  •

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

  28.   2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
          •  •  •

21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
          •  •  •

29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
          •  •  •

31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
          •  •  •

33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

  29.   5 A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
          •  •  •

15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
          •  •  •

18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
          •  •  •

27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
          •  •  •

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

  30.   9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

  31.   2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

  32.   16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

  33.   5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.
          •  •  •

7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
          •  •  •

14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
          •  •  •

16 The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
          •  •  •

18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
          •  •  •

25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat.
          •  •  •

27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

  34.   3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
          •  •  •

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

  35.   31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

  36.   13 ¶ When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;

  37.   9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the Lord; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.

  38.   9 He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.

  39.   2 Thus saith the Lord, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.

  40.   62 Then shalt thou say, O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

  41.   16 ¶ But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.

  42.   11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord God.

  43.   14 That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.

  44.   5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
          •  •  •

11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

  45.   16 But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.

  46.   7 And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

  47.   11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

  48.   21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

  49.   6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
          •  •  •

12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

  50.   22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

  51.   20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
          •  •  •

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

  52.   11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

  53.   23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

  54.   17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
          •  •  •

30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

  55.   11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

  56.   13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
          •  •  •

36 ¶ But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

  57.   18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

  58.   24 ¶ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

  59.   10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
          •  •  •

17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

  60.   29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

  61.   22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

  62.   37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

  63.   18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
          •  •  •

31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

  64.   13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
          •  •  •

32 ¶ But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

  65.   28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

  66.   16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

  67.   24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
          •  •  •

31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

  68.   49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

  69.   28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

  70.   15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

  71.   9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
          •  •  •

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

  72.   1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

  73.   26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

  74.   31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
          •  •  •

33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

  75.   13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
          •  •  •

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 ¶ He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
          •  •  •

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
          •  •  •

28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

  76.   22 ¶ The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;
          •  •  •

27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

  77.   16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
          •  •  •

18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
          •  •  •

28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

  78.   26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

  79.   3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

  80.   2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
          •  •  •

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

  81.   52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

  82.   9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

  83.   18 ¶ I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

  84.   31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

  85.   15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

  86.   28 ¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

  87.   21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

  88.   17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

  89.   27 But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

  90.   21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?

  91.   20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

  92.   27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

  93.   24 Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

  94.   16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

  95.   10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

  96.   13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
          •  •  •

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
          •  •  •

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

  97.   5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
          •  •  •

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

  98.   10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

  99.   15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

  100.   7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

  101.   4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

  102.   13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

  103.   17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

  104.   33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
          •  •  •

38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.

  105.   25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

  106.   10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

  107.   1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
          •  •  •

3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

  108.   46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

  109.   4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

  110.   9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
          •  •  •

12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

  111.   17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

  112.   7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

  113.   11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
          •  •  •

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

  114.   10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

  115.   8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

  116.   9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
          •  •  •

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

  117.   27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

  118.   21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

  119.   20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

  120.   8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

  121.   25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

  122.   6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

  123.   9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

  124.   4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

  125.   4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

  126.   4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

  127.   8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

  128.   9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

  129.   9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

  130.   11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
          •  •  •

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
          •  •  •

22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

  131.   10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

  132.   5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
          •  •  •

18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

  133.   5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
          •  •  •

8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

  134.   11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

  135.   25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

  136.   5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

  137.   1 And now I would that ye might know, that after my father, Lehi, had made an end of prophesying concerning his seed, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto him again, saying that it was not meet for him, Lehi, that he should take his family into the wilderness alone; but that his sons should take daughters to wife, that they might raise up seed unto the Lord in the land of promise.

  138.   23 And I did read many things unto them which were written in the books of Moses; but that I might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer I did read unto them that which was written by the prophet Isaiah; for I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning.

  139.   19 O my sons, that these things might not come upon you, but that ye might be a choice and a favored people of the Lord. But behold, his will be done; for his ways are righteousness forever.

  140.   33 O Lord, wilt thou encircle me around in the robe of thy righteousness! O Lord, wilt thou make a way for mine escape before mine enemies! Wilt thou make my path straight before me! Wilt thou not place a stumbling block in my way—but that thou wouldst clear my way before me, and hedge not up my way, but the ways of mine enemy.

  141.   53 And behold how great the covenants of the Lord, and how great his condescensions unto the children of men; and because of his greatness, and his grace and mercy, he has promised unto us that our seed shall not utterly be destroyed, according to the flesh, but that he would preserve them; and in future generations they shall become a righteous branch unto the house of Israel.

  142.   18 But behold, that great and abominable church, the whore of all the earth, must tumble to the earth, and great must be the fall thereof.

  143.   8 Wherefore, we would to God that we could persuade all men not to rebel against God, to provoke him to anger, but that all men would believe in Christ, and view his death, and suffer his cross and bear the shame of the world; wherefore, I, Jacob, take it upon me to fulfil the commandment of my brother Nephi.

  144.   9 And these are the words which he spake and caused to be written, saying: My brethren, all ye that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day; for I have not commanded you to come up hither to trifle with the words which I shall speak, but that you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view.

  145.   12 I say unto you, I would that ye should remember to retain the name written always in your hearts, that ye are not found on the left hand of God, but that ye hear and know the voice by which ye shall be called, and also, the name by which he shall call you.

  146.   16 And now, king Limhi commanded his guards that they should no more bind Ammon nor his brethren, but caused that they should go to the hill which was north of Shilom, and bring their brethren into the city, that thereby they might eat, and drink, and rest themselves from the labors of their journey; for they had suffered many things; they had suffered hunger, thirst, and fatigue.

  147.   5 But remember that he that persists in his own carnal nature, and goes on in the ways of sin and rebellion against God, remaineth in his fallen state and the devil hath all power over him. Therefore he is as though there was no redemption made, being an enemy to God; and also is the devil an enemy to God.

  148.   2 But there was one among them whose name was Alma, he also being a descendant of Nephi. And he was a young man, and he believed the words which Abinadi had spoken, for he knew concerning the iniquity which Abinadi had testified against them; therefore he began to plead with the king that he would not be angry with Abinadi, but suffer that he might depart in peace.

  149.   21 And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another.

  150.   24 But when he found that they were not, but that they were his brethren, and had come from the land of Zarahemla, he was filled with exceedingly great joy.

  151.   27 But Alma went forth and stood among them, and exhorted them that they should not be frightened, but that they should remember the Lord their God and he would deliver them.

  152.   30 I rejected my Redeemer, and denied that which had been spoken of by our fathers; but now that they may foresee that he will come, and that he remembereth every creature of his creating, he will make himself manifest unto all.

  153.   34 And he told them that these things ought not to be; but that the burden should come upon all the people, that every man might bear his part.

  154.   3 And he had gone about among the people, preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God, bearing down against the church; declaring unto the people that every priest and teacher ought to become popular; and they ought not to labor with their hands, but that they ought to be supported by the people.

4 And he also testified unto the people that all mankind should be saved at the last day, and that they need not fear nor tremble, but that they might lift up their heads and rejoice; for the Lord had created all men, and had also redeemed all men; and, in the end, all men should have eternal life.

  155.   6 But behold, I trust that ye are not in a state of so much unbelief as were your brethren; I trust that ye are not lifted up in the pride of your hearts; yea, I trust that ye have not set your hearts upon riches and the vain things of the world; yea, I trust that you do not worship idols, but that ye do worship the true and the living God, and that ye look forward for the remission of your sins, with an everlasting faith, which is to come.

  156.   28 But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering;

  157.   17 That they might not be hardened against the word, that they might not be unbelieving, and go on to destruction, but that they might receive the word with joy, and as a branch be grafted into the true vine, that they might enter into the rest of the Lord their God.

  158.   14 Now the father of Lamoni commanded him that he should slay Ammon with the sword. And he also commanded him that he should not go to the land of Middoni, but that he should return with him to the land of Ishmael.
          •  •  •

24 Now when Ammon saw that he had wrought upon the old king according to his desire, he said unto him: If thou wilt grant that my brethren may be cast out of prison, and also that Lamoni may retain his kingdom, and that ye be not displeased with him, but grant that he may do according to his own desires in whatsoever thing he thinketh, then will I spare thee; otherwise I will smite thee to the earth.

  159.   2 Yea, he sent a decree among them, that they should not lay their hands on them to bind them, or to cast them into prison; neither should they spit upon them, nor smite them, nor cast them out of their synagogues, nor scourge them; neither should they cast stones at them, but that they should have free access to their houses, and also their temples, and their sanctuaries.

3 And thus they might go forth and preach the word according to their desires, for the king had been converted unto the Lord, and all his household; therefore he sent his proclamation throughout the land unto his people, that the word of God might have no obstruction, but that it might go forth throughout all the land, that his people might be convinced concerning the wicked traditions of their fathers, and that they might be convinced that they were all brethren, and that they ought not to murder, nor to plunder, nor to steal, nor to commit adultery, nor to commit any manner of wickedness.

  160.   23 Now when the Lamanites saw that their brethren would not flee from the sword, neither would they turn aside to the right hand or to the left, but that they would lie down and perish, and praised God even in the very act of perishing under the sword—

  161.   5 Yea, and I know that good and evil have come before all men; he that knoweth not good from evil is blameless; but he that knoweth good and evil, to him it is given according to his desires, whether he desireth good or evil, life or death, joy or remorse of conscience.
          •  •  •

17 And now may God grant unto these, my brethren, that they may sit down in the kingdom of God; yea, and also all those who are the fruit of their labors that they may go no more out, but that they may praise him forever. And may God grant that it may be done according to my words, even as I have spoken. Amen.

  162.   38 That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.
          •  •  •

41 But that ye have patience, and bear with those afflictions, with a firm hope that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions.

  163.   21 And as concerning that God whom ye say we have rejected, behold, we know not such a being; neither do ye; but if it so be that there is such a being, we know not but that he hath made us as well as you.

  164.   26 Now it came to pass that when it was night, I caused that my men should not sleep, but that they should march forward by another way towards the land of Manti.

  165.   13 But behold he doth not command us that we shall subject ourselves to our enemies, but that we should put our trust in him, and he will deliver us.

  166.   26 For behold, Moronihah had supposed that the Lamanites durst not come into the center of the land, but that they would attack the cities round about in the borders as they had hitherto done; therefore Moronihah had caused that their strong armies should maintain those parts round about by the borders.

  167.   8 And now my sons, behold I have somewhat more to desire of you, which desire is, that ye may not do these things that ye may boast, but that ye may do these things to lay up for yourselves a treasure in heaven, yea, which is eternal, and which fadeth not away; yea, that ye may have that precious gift of eternal life, which we have reason to suppose hath been given to our fathers.
          •  •  •

10 And remember also the words which Amulek spake unto Zeezrom, in the city of Ammonihah; for he said unto him that the Lord surely should come to redeem his people, but that he should not come to redeem them in their sins, but to redeem them from their sins.

  168.   21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.

  169.   23 And he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned;
          •  •  •

28 Be wise in the days of your probation; strip yourselves of all uncleanness; ask not, that ye may consume it on your lusts, but ask with a firmness unshaken, that ye will yield to no temptation, but that ye will serve the true and living God.

29 See that ye are not baptized unworthily; see that ye partake not of the sacrament of Christ unworthily; but see that ye do all things in worthiness, and do it in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God; and if ye do this, and endure to the end, ye will in nowise be cast out.

  170.   11 But he that believeth these things which I have spoken, him will I visit with the manifestations of my Spirit, and he shall know and bear record. For because of my Spirit he shall know that these things are true; for it persuadeth men to do good.
          •  •  •

18 Therefore, repent all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me, and believe in my gospel, and be baptized in my name; for he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned; and signs shall follow them that believe in my name.

  171.   26 Wherefore, I, Moroni, am commanded to write these things that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men, but that they may be persuaded to do good continually, that they may come unto the fountain of all righteousness and be saved.

  172.   33 And it came to pass that the Lord did cause the serpents that they should pursue them no more, but that they should hedge up the way that the people could not pass, that whoso should attempt to pass might fall by the poisonous serpents.

  173.   18 And it came to pass that Coriantumr wrote again an epistle unto Shiz, desiring that he would not come again to battle, but that he would take the kingdom, and spare the lives of the people.

  174.   13 But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

  175.   8 Listen to the words of Christ, your Redeemer, your Lord and your God. Behold, I came into the world not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance; the whole need no physician, but they that are sick; wherefore, little children are whole, for they are not capable of committing sin; wherefore the curse of Adam is taken from them in me, that it hath no power over them; and the law of circumcision is done away in me.

  176.   6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.

  177.   20 But that every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world;

  178.   31 For, behold, they shall not accomplish their evil designs in lying against those words. For, behold, if you should bring forth the same words they will say that you have lied and that you have pretended to translate, but that you have contradicted yourself.

  179.   30 But remember that all my judgments are not given unto men; and as the words have gone forth out of my mouth even so shall they be fulfilled, that the first shall be last, and that the last shall be first in all things whatsoever I have created by the word of my power, which is the power of my Spirit.

  180.   9 But before that great day shall come, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon be turned into blood; and the stars shall refuse their shining, and some shall fall, and great destructions await the wicked.

  181.   19 And again, I say, thou shalt not kill; but he that killeth shall die.
          •  •  •

      25 But he that has committed adultery and repents with all his heart, and forsaketh it, and doeth it no more, thou shalt forgive;

  182.   29 But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned.

  183.   12 But remember that on this, the Lord’s day, thou shalt offer thine oblations and thy sacraments unto the Most High, confessing thy sins unto thy brethren, and before the Lord.
          •  •  •

23 But learn that he who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come.

  184.   16 And it shall be said in days to come that none is able to go up to the land of Zion upon the waters, but he that is upright in heart.

  185.   13 And this ye shall do that God may be glorified—not because ye forgive not, having not compassion, but that ye may be justified in the eyes of the law, that ye may not offend him who is your lawgiver—

  186.   7 And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God.

  187.   14 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy; and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as are the records on the earth in relation to your dead, which are truly made out, so also are the records in heaven. This, therefore, is the sealing and binding power, and, in one sense of the word, the keys of the kingdom, which consist in the key of knowledge.

  188.   4 He may enter into the other, but that is the end of his kingdom; he cannot have an increase.

  189.   17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, nevertheless, thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee; but, remember that I forbid it, for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  190.   61 And the day shall come that the earth shall rest, but before that day the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve;
          •  •  •

66 But before that day he saw great tribulations among the wicked; and he also saw the sea, that it was troubled, and men’s hearts failing them, looking forth with fear for the judgments of the Almighty God, which should come upon the wicked.

  191.   11 But he that remaineth steadfast and is not overcome, the same shall be saved.
          •  •  •

30 And again, because iniquity shall abound, the love of men shall wax cold; but he that shall not be overcome, the same shall be saved.
          •  •  •

40 But of that day, and hour, no one knoweth; no, not the angels of God in heaven, but my Father only.
          •  •  •

51 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord delayeth his coming,

  192.   59 At length the time arrived for obtaining the plates, the Urim and Thummim, and the breastplate. On the twenty-second day of September, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-seven, having gone as usual at the end of another year to the place where they were deposited, the same heavenly messenger delivered them up to me with this charge: that I should be responsible for them; that if I should let them go carelessly, or through any neglect of mine, I should be cut off; but that if I would use all my endeavors to preserve them, until he, the messenger, should call for them, they should be protected.
          •  •  •

70 He said this Aaronic Priesthood had not the power of laying on hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, but that this should be conferred on us hereafter; and he commanded us to go and be baptized, and gave us directions that I should baptize Oliver Cowdery, and that afterwards he should baptize me.
