"And this I know"

  1.   27 I say unto you, unless this be the case, they must be cast off; and this I know, because I was like to be cast off.
  2.   36 And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell; yea, and he has also said that the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom, to go no more out; but their garments should be made white through the blood of the Lamb.

"State of the"

  1.   7 And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.
  2.   18 Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of the king.
  3.   31 And they said unto me: Doth this thing mean the torment of the body in the days of probation, or doth it mean the final state of the soul after the death of the temporal body, or doth it speak of the things which are temporal?
          •  •  •
35 And there is a place prepared, yea, even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and the devil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell in the kingdom of God, or to be cast out because of that justice of which I have spoken.
  4.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.
  5.   11 Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.
          •  •  •
14 Now this is the state of the souls of the wicked, yea, in darkness, and a state of awful, fearful looking for the fiery indignation of the wrath of God upon them; thus they remain in this state, as well as the righteous in paradise, until the time of their resurrection.
          •  •  •
21 But whether it be at his resurrection or after, I do not say; but this much I say, that there is a space between death and the resurrection of the body, and a state of the soul in happiness or in misery until the time which is appointed of God that the dead shall come forth, and be reunited, both soul and body, and be brought to stand before God, and be judged according to their works.

"Of the wicked"

  1.   22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
  2.   24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof, if not, where, and who is he?
  3.   3 Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
  4.   20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
  5.   11 God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
  6.   5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
          •  •  •
21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
  7.   5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
          •  •  •
22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
  8.   16 Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
17 How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
          •  •  •
28 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
  9.   18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
  10.   6 They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.
  11.   17 And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
  12.   6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.
          •  •  •
17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.
  13.   9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.
  14.   15 Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
  15.   16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
  16.   1 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
          •  •  •
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
  17.   17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.
          •  •  •
28 For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
          •  •  •
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
  18.   3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
  19.   10 The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
  20.   2 Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
  21.   4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
  22.   3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
  23.   19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.
  24.   10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
  25.   2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
          •  •  •
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
  26.   8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
  27.   11 Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
  28.   10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
  29.   2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
  30.   10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
  31.   53 Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
          •  •  •
61 The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law.
  32.   3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
  33.   4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
  34.   4 Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
          •  •  •
8 Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.
  35.   9 The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
  36.   14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
  37.   25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
          •  •  •
33 ¶ The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
  38.   14 ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
          •  •  •
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
  39.   3 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
          •  •  •
6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
          •  •  •
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
          •  •  •
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
          •  •  •
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
          •  •  •
24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
          •  •  •
27 The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
          •  •  •
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
  40.   11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
          •  •  •
23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
  41.   5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
          •  •  •
10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
          •  •  •
26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
  42.   9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
          •  •  •
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
  43.   11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
  44.   6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
          •  •  •
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
          •  •  •
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
          •  •  •
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
  45.   5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
  46.   28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
  47.   4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
          •  •  •
7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
          •  •  •
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
          •  •  •
12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
          •  •  •
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
  48.   20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
  49.   14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
  50.   5 The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.
  51.   28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
  52.   1 Righteous art thou, O Lord, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?
  53.   21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
  54.   19 Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
  55.   23 Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.
  56.   22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
  57.   20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
  58.   29 Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an end.
  59.   12 And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I the Lord have spoken it.
  60.   11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
  61.   10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
  62.   10 ¶ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?
  63.   13 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
  64.   38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
  65.   16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
  66.   7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
  67.   17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
  68.   37 And he raiseth up a righteous nation, and destroyeth the nations of the wicked.
  69.   5 The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, the scepters of the rulers.
  70.   57 And now I say unto you, all you that are desirous to follow the voice of the good shepherd, come ye out from the wicked, and be ye separate, and touch not their unclean things; and behold, their names shall be blotted out, that the names of the wicked shall not be numbered among the names of the righteous, that the word of God may be fulfilled, which saith: The names of the wicked shall not be mingled with the names of my people;
  71.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.
  72.   13 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of the wicked, yea, who are evil—for behold, they have no part nor portion of the Spirit of the Lord; for behold, they chose evil works rather than good; therefore the spirit of the devil did enter into them, and take possession of their house—and these shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth, and this because of their own iniquity, being led captive by the will of the devil.
14 Now this is the state of the souls of the wicked, yea, in darkness, and a state of awful, fearful looking for the fiery indignation of the wrath of God upon them; thus they remain in this state, as well as the righteous in paradise, until the time of their resurrection.
  73.   7 And behold, ye do know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed it, that as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of the truth, and to know of the wicked and abominable traditions of their fathers, and are led to believe the holy scriptures, yea, the prophecies of the holy prophets, which are written, which leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a change of heart unto them—
  74.   7 And it came to pass that my people, with their wives and their children, did now behold the armies of the Lamanites marching towards them; and with that awful fear of death which fills the breasts of all the wicked, did they await to receive them.
  75.   17 Taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked;
  76.   5 But behold, the residue of the wicked have I kept in chains of darkness until the judgment of the great day, which shall come at the end of the earth;
  77.   8 And let the residue take their journey from St. Louis, two by two, and preach the word, not in haste, among the congregations of the wicked, until they return to the churches from whence they came.
          •  •  •
13 Behold, they have been sent to preach my gospel among the congregations of the wicked; wherefore, I give unto them a commandment, thus: Thou shalt not idle away thy time, neither shalt thou bury thy talent that it may not be known.
14 And after thou hast come up unto the land of Zion, and hast proclaimed my word, thou shalt speedily return, proclaiming my word among the congregations of the wicked, not in haste, neither in wrath nor with strife.
  78.   30 And again, verily I say unto you, my servants, Sidney Rigdon, Joseph Smith, Jun., and Oliver Cowdery, shall not open their mouths in the congregations of the wicked until they arrive at Cincinnati;
          •  •  •
32 And from thence let them journey for the congregations of their brethren, for their labors even now are wanted more abundantly among them than among the congregations of the wicked.
      33 And now, concerning the residue, let them journey and declare the word among the congregations of the wicked, inasmuch as it is given;
  79.   5 And then you may return to bear record, yea, even altogether, or two by two, as seemeth you good, it mattereth not unto me; only be faithful, and declare glad tidings unto the inhabitants of the earth, or among the congregations of the wicked.
  80.   1 My servant, Orson Hyde, was called by his ordination to proclaim the everlasting gospel, by the Spirit of the living God, from people to people, and from land to land, in the congregations of the wicked, in their synagogues, reasoning with and expounding all scriptures unto them.
  81.   46 Therefore, O Lord, deliver thy people from the calamity of the wicked; enable thy servants to seal up the law, and bind up the testimony, that they may be prepared against the day of burning.
  82.   43 Wherefore Enoch saw that Noah built an ark; and that the Lord smiled upon it, and held it in his own hand; but upon the residue of the wicked the floods came and swallowed them up.
  83.   4 And Jesus left them, and went upon the Mount of Olives. And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying: Tell us when shall these things be which thou hast said concerning the destruction of the temple, and the Jews; and what is the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world, or the destruction of the wicked, which is the end of the world?
          •  •  •
      31 And again, this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come, or the destruction of the wicked;
          •  •  •
55 And thus cometh the end of the wicked, according to the prophecy of Moses, saying: They shall be cut off from among the people; but the end of the earth is not yet, but by and by.

"Final state"

  1.   31 And they said unto me: Doth this thing mean the torment of the body in the days of probation, or doth it mean the final state of the soul after the death of the temporal body, or doth it speak of the things which are temporal?
          •  •  •
35 And there is a place prepared, yea, even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and the devil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell in the kingdom of God, or to be cast out because of that justice of which I have spoken.
  2.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.

"And the devil hath all power over"

  1.   5 But remember that he that persists in his own carnal nature, and goes on in the ways of sin and rebellion against God, remaineth in his fallen state and the devil hath all power over him. Therefore he is as though there was no redemption made, being an enemy to God; and also is the devil an enemy to God.
  2.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.

"All power over"

  1.   5 But remember that he that persists in his own carnal nature, and goes on in the ways of sin and rebellion against God, remaineth in his fallen state and the devil hath all power over him.
  3.   23 Thus the Nephites had all power over their enemies; and thus the Lamanites did attempt to destroy the Nephites until their chief captains were all slain; yea, and more than a thousand of the Lamanites were slain; while, on the other hand, there was not a single soul of the Nephites which was slain.

Have no place in you

  1.   37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
  2.   36 And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have been taught all these things, if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom’s paths that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved—
  3.   42 Behold, I know that thou believest, but thou art possessed with a lying spirit, and ye have put off the Spirit of God that it may have no place in you; but the devil has power over you, and he doth carry you about, working devices that he may destroy the children of God.
  4.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.

Withdraw from

  1.   17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
  2.   6 They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the Lord; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
  3.   15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
  4.   41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
  5.   6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
  6.   36 And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have been taught all these things, if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom’s paths that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved—
  7.   24 For the hearts of many were hardened, and their names were blotted out, that they were remembered no more among the people of God. And also many withdrew themselves from among them.
  8.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.
  9.   1 Now it came to pass that after Amulek had made an end of these words, they withdrew themselves from the multitude and came over into the land of Jershon.
  10.   12 And now when Moroni had said these words, Zerahemnah retained his sword, and he was angry with Moroni, and he rushed forward that he might slay Moroni; but as he raised his sword, behold, one of Moroni’s soldiers smote it even to the earth, and it broke by the hilt; and he also smote Zerahemnah that he took off his scalp and it fell to the earth. And Zerahemnah withdrew from before them into the midst of his soldiers.
  11.   24 And they saw that they had become weak, like unto their brethren, the Lamanites, and that the Spirit of the Lord did no more preserve them; yea, it had withdrawn from them because the Spirit of the Lord doth not dwell in unholy temples—
  12.   35 And thus we see that the Spirit of the Lord began to withdraw from the Nephites, because of the wickedness and the hardness of their hearts.
  13.   22 And thus it became the desire of the people of Zemnarihah to withdraw from their design, because of the great destruction which came upon them by night and by day.
23 And it came to pass that Zemnarihah did give command unto his people that they should withdraw themselves from the siege, and march into the furthermost parts of the land northward.
  14.   13 And it came to pass that the people hardened their hearts, and would not hearken unto their words; and the prophets mourned and withdrew from among the people.
  15.   57 And then he withdrew from the first that he might visit the second also, and the third, and the fourth, and so on unto the twelfth.
  16.   10 We believe that all religious societies have a right to deal with their members for disorderly conduct, according to the rules and regulations of such societies; provided that such dealings be for fellowship and good standing; but we do not believe that any religious society has authority to try men on the right of property or life, to take from them this world’s goods, or to put them in jeopardy of either life or limb, or to inflict any physical punishment upon them. They can only excommunicate them from their society, and withdraw from them their fellowship.
  17.   9 And the presence of God withdrew from Moses, that his glory was not upon Moses; and Moses was left unto himself. And as he was left unto himself, he fell unto the earth.

15 Blessed be the name of my God, for his Spirit hath not altogether withdrawn from me, or else where is thy glory, for it is darkness unto me? And I can judge between thee and God; for God said unto me: Worship God, for him only shalt thou serve.
  18.   12 Now, after the Lord had withdrawn from speaking to me, and withdrawn his face from me, I said in my heart: Thy servant has sought thee earnestly; now I have found thee;

Spirit of the Lord withdraws

  1.   36 And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have been taught all these things, if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom’s paths that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved—
  2.   35 For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.
  3.   24 And they saw that they had become weak, like unto their brethren, the Lamanites, and that the Spirit of the Lord did no more preserve them; yea, it had withdrawn from them because the Spirit of the Lord doth not dwell in unholy temples—
  4.   35 And thus we see that the Spirit of the Lord began to withdraw from the Nephites, because of the wickedness and the hardness of their hearts.
  5.   37 That they may be conferred upon us, it is true; but when we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man.
