Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back,
behold, the Lord comforted us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the
Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success.

Wilt thou grant unto them that they may have strength, that they may bear their afflictions which shall come upon them because of the iniquities of this people.
40
And now my beloved brethren, I would exhort you to have patience, and that ye bear with all manner of afflictions;
that ye do not revile against those who do cast you out because of your
exceeding poverty, lest ye become sinners like unto them;
41
But that ye have patience, and bear with those afflictions, with a firm hope that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions.

But it came to pass that when they saw the danger, and the many afflictions and tribulations which the Nephites bore for them, they were moved with compassion and were desirous to take up arms in the defence of their country.

O Lord, how long wilt thou suffer this people to bear this affliction,
and the cries of their innocent ones to ascend up in thine ears, and
their blood come up in testimony before thee, and not make a display of
thy testimony in their behalf?

In all their afflictions he was afflicted. And the angel of his presence saved them; and in his love, and in his pity, he redeemed them, and bore them, and carried them all the days of old;
