May/might judge

  1.   37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.
  2.   1 If there be a acontroversy between men, and they come unto bjudgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall cjustify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
  3.   20 That we also may be like all the anations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
  4.   7 ¶ Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge, even the porch of judgment: and it was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.
  5.   11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
  6.   25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and ajudges, which may judge all the people that are bbeyond the river, all such as know the claws of thy God; and dteach ye them that know them not.
  7.   4 He shall call to the aheavens from above, and to the earth, that he may bjudge his people.
  8.   6 aFor for this cause was the bgospel cpreached also to them that are ddead, that they might be ejudged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
  9.   11 And he said unto the king: Behold, here are many whom we have brought before thee, who are accused of their brethren; yea, and they have been taken in divers iniquities. And they do not repent of their iniquities; therefore we have brought them before thee, that thou mayest judge them according to their crimes.
          •  •  •
33 And it came to pass when Alma had heard these words he awrote them down that he might have them, and that he might judge the people of that church according to the commandments of God.
  10.   25 Therefore, choose you by the avoice of this people, judges, that ye may be bjudged according to the claws which have been given you by our fathers, which are correct, and which were given them by the hand of the Lord.
          •  •  •
28 And now if ye have judges, and they do not ajudge you according to the law which has been given, ye can cause that they may be judged of a higher judge.
  11.   13 Nevertheless, there were some among them who thought to question them, that by their cunning adevices they might catch them in their words, that they might bfind witness against them, that they might deliver them to their judges that they might be judged according to the law, and that they might be slain or cast into prison, according to the crime which they could make appear or witness against them.
  12.   15 And for this cause have I been alifted up; therefore, according to the power of the Father I will draw all men unto me, that they may be judged according to their bworks.
  13.   18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the alight by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same bjudgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged.
  14.   73 And also they who are the aspirits of men kept in bprison, whom the Son visited, and cpreached the dgospel unto them, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh;
  15.   10 “For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.” (1 Peter 4:6.)
          •  •  •
34 And all other principles of the gospel that were necessary for them to know in order to qualify themselves that they might be ajudged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Repent of iniquities

  1.   15 And it came to pass that we were about to be swallowed up in the depths of the sea. And after we had been driven back upon the waters for the space of four days, my brethren began to asee that the judgments of God were upon them, and that they must perish save that they should repent of their iniquities; wherefore, they came unto me, and loosed the bands which were upon my wrists, and behold they had swollen exceedingly; and also mine ankles were much swollen, and great was the soreness thereof.
  2.   22 And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be aloathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities.
  3.   11 And he said unto the king: Behold, here are many whom we have brought before thee, who are accused of their brethren; yea, and they have been taken in divers iniquities. And they do not repent of their iniquities; therefore we have brought them before thee, that thou mayest judge them according to their crimes.
          •  •  •
36 And those that would not confess their sins and repent of their iniquity, the same were not numbered among the people of the church, and their names were ablotted out.
  4.   10 And it came to pass that the Nephites began to repent of their iniquity, and began to cry even as had been prophesied by Samuel the prophet; for behold no man could akeep that which was his own, for the thieves, and the robbers, and the murderers, and the magic art, and the witchcraft which was in the land.
  5.   2 But behold, I was awithout hope, for I knew the judgments of the Lord which should come upon them; for they repented not of their iniquities, but did struggle for their lives without calling upon that Being who created them.
  6.   6 For the Lord said unto me: They shall not go forth unto the Gentiles until the day that they shall repent of their iniquity, and become clean before the Lord.
  7.   26 And because the people did repent of their iniquities and idolatries the Lord did spare them, and they began to prosper again in the land. And it came to pass that Shule abegat sons and daughters in his old age.
  8.   34 And it came to pass that the people did follow the course of the beasts, and did devour the acarcasses of them which fell by the way, until they had devoured them all. Now when the people saw that they must bperish they began to crepent of their iniquities and cry unto the Lord.
  9.   8 And the people began to repent of their iniquity; and inasmuch as they did the Lord did have amercy on them.
          •  •  •
12 And it came to pass that in the days of Ethem there came many prophets, and prophesied again unto the people; yea, they did prophesy that the Lord would utterly adestroy them from off the face of the earth except they repented of their iniquities.
  10.   6 And it came to pass that the people repented not of their iniquity; and the people of Coriantumr were stirred up to anger against the people of Shiz; and the people of Shiz were stirred up to anger against the people of Coriantumr; wherefore, the people of Shiz did give battle unto the people of Coriantumr.

Taken in iniquity

  1.   6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not awarned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I brequire at the watchman’s hand.
  2.   11 And he said unto the king: Behold, here are many whom we have brought before thee, who are accused of their brethren; yea, and they have been taken in divers iniquities. And they do not repent of their iniquities; therefore we have brought them before thee, that thou mayest judge them according to their crimes.
          •  •  •
34 And it came to pass that Alma went and judged those that had been taken in iniquity, according to the aword of the Lord.

Accused of brethren

  1.   10 And I heard a loud avoice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and bstrength, and the kingdom of our God, and the cpower of his Christ: for the daccuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
  2.   11 And he said unto the king: Behold, here are many whom we have brought before thee, who are accused of their brethren; yea, and they have been taken in divers iniquities. And they do not repent of their iniquities; therefore we have brought them before thee, that thou mayest judge them according to their crimes.

"Many of whom"

  1.   18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
  2.   21 And I saw numberless concourses of people, many of whom were apressing forward, that they might obtain the bpath which led unto the tree by which I stood.
  3.   15 Thus they were a very indolent people, many of whom did worship idols, and the acurse of God had fallen upon them because of the btraditions of their fathers; notwithstanding the promises of the Lord were extended unto them on the conditions of repentance.
  4.   1 Verily I say unto you my friends, I speak unto you with my avoice, even the voice of my Spirit, that I may show unto you my will concerning your brethren in the land of bZion, many of whom are truly humble and are seeking diligently to learn wisdom and to find truth.

People stood

  1.   13 ¶ And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to ajudge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
14 And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
  2.   21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
  3.   32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
  4.   28 So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
  5.   12 And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
  6.   3 ¶ And the king stood by a apillar, and made a bcovenant before the Lord, to cwalk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.
  7.   5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
          •  •  •
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
  8.   5 ¶ Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of the Lord,
  9.   35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them aderided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the bchosen of God.
  10.   22 ¶ The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;
  11.   42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast asent me.
  12.   9 And it came to pass that Alma did not know concerning them; but there were many awitnesses against them; yea, the people stood and testified of their iniquity in abundance.
  13.   37 And it came to pass that Enoch went forth in the land, among the people, standing upon the hills and the high places, and cried with a loud voice, testifying against their works; and all men were aoffended because of him.

"Witness against"

  1.   16 Thou shalt not bear afalse witness against thy bneighbour.
  2.   13 And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and abe kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be btaken with the manner;
  3.   26 I call aheaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over bJordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall cutterly be destroyed.
  4.   20 Neither shalt thou bear afalse witness against thy neighbour.
  5.   26 Take this abook of the blaw, and put it in the side of the cark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a dwitness against thee.
  6.   22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to aserve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
  7.   3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before the Lord, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I adefrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bbribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
          •  •  •
5 And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.
  8.   10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness aagainst him, saying, Thou didst bblaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.
          •  •  •
13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.
  9.   17 Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; achanges and war are against me.
  10.   8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
  11.   28 Be not a awitness against thy neighbour without cause; and bdeceive not with thy lips.
  12.   18 A man that abeareth bfalse witness against his neighbour is a cmaul, and a dsword, and a sharp arrow.
  13.   9 ¶ The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their asin as bSodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
  14.   2 Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord God be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.
  15.   5 And I will come near to you to ajudgment; and I will be a swift witness against the bsorcerers, and against the cadulterers, and against dfalse swearers, and against those that eoppress the hireling in his fwages, the gwidow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the hstranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.
  16.   59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false awitness against Jesus, bto put him to death;
          •  •  •
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
  17.   13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
  18.   55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to adeath; and found none.
56 For many bare afalse witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
          •  •  •
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
  19.   4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.
  20.   3 Your agold and silver is bcankered; and the crust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
  21.   9 The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their asin to be even as bSodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!
  22.   23 Thou shalt not bear afalse witness against thy neighbor.
  23.   9 And it came to pass that Alma did not know concerning them; but there were many awitnesses against them; yea, the people stood and testified of their iniquity in abundance.
  24.   13 Nevertheless, there were some among them who thought to question them, that by their cunning adevices they might catch them in their words, that they might bfind witness against them, that they might deliver them to their judges that they might be judged according to the law, and that they might be slain or cast into prison, according to the crime which they could make appear or witness against them.
  25.   5 And the people went forth and witnessed against them—testifying that they had reviled against the law, and their lawyers and judges of the land, and also of all the people that were in the land; and also testified that there was but one God, and that he should send his Son among the people, but he should anot save them; and many such things did the people testify against Alma and Amulek. Now this was done before the chief judge of the land.
          •  •  •
11 But Alma said unto him: The Spirit constraineth me that I must not stretch forth mine hand; for behold the Lord receiveth them up unto himself, in aglory; and he doth suffer that they may do this thing, or that the people may do this thing unto them, according to the hardness of their hearts, that the bjudgments which he shall exercise upon them in his wrath may be just; and the cblood of the dinnocent shall stand as a witness against them, yea, and cry mightily against them at the last day.
  26.   21 But behold, it is to get again, to be bpraised of men, yea, and that ye might get gold and silver. And ye have set your hearts upon the criches and the vain things of this world, for the which ye do murder, and plunder, and steal, and bear dfalse witness against your neighbor, and do all manner of iniquity.
  27.   5 And I will come anear to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the bsorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false cswearers, and against those that doppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the efatherless, and that turn aside the fstranger, and fear not me, saith the Lord of Hosts.

"Many witnesses"

  1.   60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false awitnesses,
  2.   12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on aeternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast bprofessed a good profession before many witnesses.
  3.   2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to ateach others also.
  4.   14 Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to bring forth the words of the book; and in the mouth of as many witnesses as seemeth him good will he establish his word; and wo be unto him that arejecteth the word of God!
  5.   9 And it came to pass that Alma did not know concerning them; but there were many awitnesses against them; yea, the people stood and testified of their iniquity in abundance.
  6.   30 And now, my brethren, I would that, after ye have areceived so many witnesses, seeing that the holy scriptures testify of these things, ye come forth and bring bfruit unto repentance.
          •  •  •
33 And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many awitnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not bprocrastinate the day of your crepentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the dnight of edarkness wherein there can be no labor performed.

"Over the church"

  1.   8 Now king Mosiah had given Alma the aauthority over the bchurch.
          •  •  •

38 And now all these things did Alma and his afellow laborers do who were over the church, bwalking in all diligence, teaching the word of God in all things, suffering all manner of afflictions, being persecuted by all those who did not belong to the church of God.
    1. The account of Alma, who was the son of Alma, the first and chief judge over the people of Nephi, and also the high priest over the Church. An account of the reign of the judges, and the wars and contentions among the people. And also an account of a war between the Nephites and the Lamanites, according to the record of Alma, the first and chief judge.

  2.   7 Now this was the cause of much affliction to Alma, yea, and to many of the people whom Alma had consecrated to be ateachers, and bpriests, and celders over the church; yea, many of them were sorely grieved for the wickedness which they saw had begun to be among their people.
          •  •  •

18 Now Alma did not grant unto him the office of being ahigh priest over the church, but he retained the office of high priest unto himself; but he delivered the judgment-seat unto bNephihah.

  3.   3 I, Alma, having been aconsecrated by my father, Alma, to be a bhigh priest over the church of God, he having power and cauthority from God to do these things, behold, I say unto you that he began to establish a church in the dland which was in the borders of Nephi; yea, the land which was called the land of Mormon; yea, and he did baptize his brethren in the waters of Mormon.

  4.   1 And now it came to pass that after Alma had made an end of speaking unto the people of the church, which was established in the city of Zarahemla, he aordained priests and belders, by laying on his chands according to the order of God, to preside and dwatch over the church.

  5.   11 Nevertheless, they hardened their hearts, saying unto him: Behold, we know that thou art Alma; and we know that thou art high priest over the church which thou hast established in many parts of the land, according to your tradition; and we are not of thy church, and we do not believe in such foolish traditions.
          •  •  •

23 And after he had eaten and was filled he said unto Amulek: I am Alma, and am the ahigh priest over the church of God throughout the land.

  6.   5 Therefore, he that had been appointed chief captain over the armies of the Nephites, (and his name was Zoram, and he had two sons, Lehi and Aha)—now Zoram and his two sons, knowing that Alma was high priest over the church, and having heard that he had the spirit of prophecy, therefore they went unto him and desired of him to know whither the Lord would that they should go into the wilderness in search of their brethren, who had been taken captive by the Lamanites.

  7.   6 Thus they were led away by Amalickiah to dissensions, notwithstanding the preaching of Helaman and his brethren, yea, notwithstanding their exceedingly great care over the church, for they were ahigh priests over the church.

  8.   42 And to teach, expound, exhort, baptize, and watch over the church;
          •  •  •

      53 The ateacher’s duty is to bwatch over the cchurch always, and be with and strengthen them;

  9.   27 And unto the abishop of the church, and unto such as God shall appoint and ordain to watch over the church and to be elders unto the church, are to have it given unto them to bdiscern all those gifts lest there shall be any among you professing and yet be not of God.

  10.   111 And behold, the ahigh priests should travel, and also the elders, and also the lesser bpriests; but the cdeacons and dteachers should be appointed to ewatch over the church, to be standing ministers unto the church.

  11.   91 And again, the duty of the President of the office of the High Priesthood is to apreside over the whole church, and to be like unto bMoses

"Before Alma"

  1.   7 And it came to pass that they were brought before the priests, and delivered up unto the apriests by the teachers; and the priests brought them before Alma, who was the bhigh priest.
  2.   10 And the man who slew him was taken by the people of the church, and was brought before Alma, to be ajudged according to the crimes which he had committed.
11 And it came to pass that he stood before Alma and pleaded for himself with much boldness.
  3.   32 And he also contended with the king of the Lamanites; but the king of the Lamanites fled back from before Alma and sent his guards to contend with Alma.
  4.   21 And it came to pass that the man received him into his house; and the man was called Amulek; and he brought forth bread and meat and set before Alma.
  5.   14 Now it came to pass that when the bodies of those who had been cast into the fire were consumed, and also the records which were cast in with them, the chief judge of the land came and stood before Alma and Amulek, as they were bound; and he smote them with his hand upon their acheeks, and said unto them: After what ye have seen, will ye preach again unto this people, that they shall be cast into a blake of fire and brimstone?
  6.   29 Now when the high priest and the achief judge saw the hardness of his heart, yea, when they saw that he would brevile even against God, they would not make any reply to his words; but they caused that he should be bound; and they delivered him up into the hands of the officers, and sent him to the land of Zarahemla, that he might be brought before Alma, and the chief judge who was governor over all the land.
30 And it came to pass that when he was brought before Alma and the chief judge, he did go on in the same manner as he did in the land of Gideon; yea, he went on to ablaspheme.
31 And he did rise up in great aswelling words before Alma, and did revile against the bpriests and teachers, accusing them of leading away the people after the silly traditions of their fathers, for the sake of glutting on the labors of the people.

Before the priests

  1.   36 Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house:
  2.   8 But if he be poorer than thy estimation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to his ability that vowed shall the priest value him.
          •  •  •
11 And if it be any unclean beast, of which they do not offer a sacrifice unto the Lord, then he shall present the beast before the priest:
  3.   6 Bring the tribe of aLevi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.
  4.   2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the aprinces and all the congregation, by the door of the btabernacle of the congregation, saying,
          •  •  •
19 And aset him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
          •  •  •
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the apriest, who shall ask bcounsel for him cafter the judgment of dUrim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:
  5.   18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
  6.   17 Then both the men, between whom the acontroversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
  7.   9 ¶ And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and athe rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
  8.   33 And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, as well as the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount aGerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
  9.   4 And they came near before aEleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The Lord commanded Moses to give us an binheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the Lord he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
  10.   11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. aAnd the child did minister unto the Lord before Eli the priest.
  11.   14 ¶ And he appointed, according to the aorder of David his father, the bcourses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the cduty of every day required: the porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
  12.   19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, from beside the incense altar.
  13.   7 And it came to pass that they were brought before the priests, and delivered up unto the apriests by the teachers; and the priests brought them before Alma, who was the bhigh priest.
  14.   21 And it came to pass that he caused that he should be carried out of the land. And he came over into the land of Gideon, and began to preach unto them also; and here he did not have much success, for he was taken and bound and carried before the high priest, and also the chief judge over the land.
