17
Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
• • •
22
¶ And ye came near unto me
every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall
search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go
up, and into what cities we shall come.
• • •
41
Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the Lord, we will go up and fight, according to all that the Lord our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.
42
And the Lord said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.
1
Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the Lord spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
2
And the Lord spake unto me, saying,
• • •
9
And the Lord said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
• • •
17
That the Lord spake unto me, saying,
• • •
29
(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the Lord our God giveth us.
• • •
31
And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.
8
And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and
two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I
pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.
• • •
15
¶ And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
• • •
21
¶ And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.
7
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
• • •
10
And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
• • •
39
And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me,
and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy
life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
4
Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
• • •
7
¶ But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
• • •
9
Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
• • •
11
¶ Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.
12
Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
13
And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
14
Then the Lord said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
1
Thus saith the Lord unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.
• • •
3
And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying,
• • •
6
And it came to pass after many days, that the Lord said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.
• • •
8
Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
• • •
11
For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
15
¶ Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the Lord? let it come now.
• • •
17
Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil.
• • •
19
¶ Thus said the Lord unto me;
Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the
kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the
gates of Jerusalem;
• • •
24
And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the Lord, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;
• • •
27
But if ye will not hearken unto me
to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in
at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire
in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and
it shall not be quenched.
6
¶ And Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
• • •
8
So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the Lord, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.
• • •
25
And thou hast said unto me, O Lord God, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
• • •
33
And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.
1
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.
• • •
3
And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
4
¶ And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.
• • •
7
But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.
• • •
10
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
• • •
16
And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
• • •
22
¶ And the hand of the Lord was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee.
• • •
24
Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house.
5
¶ Then said he unto me,
Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I
lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at
the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.
6
He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even
the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I
should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
• • •
8
Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.
9
And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.
• • •
12
Then said he unto me,
Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do
in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say,
The Lord seeth us not; the Lord hath forsaken the earth.
13
¶ He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
• • •
15
¶ Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
• • •
17
¶ Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this,
O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they
commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled
the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
3
And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.
4
Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.
• • •
9
Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
• • •
11
¶ Then he said unto me,
Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they
say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our
parts.
• • •
15
¶ The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
6
And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.
7
¶ And he said unto me,
Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my
feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for
ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.
• • •
18
¶ And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord God; These are
the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to
offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.
19
And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord God, a young bullock for a sin offering.
2
Then said the Lord unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the Lord, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.
• • •
5
And the Lord said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
• • •
13
And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
• • •
15
¶ But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge
of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord God:
16
They shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister unto me, and they shall keep my charge.
5
The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
• • •
9
But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.
• • •
23
I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.
• • •
26
The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
6
Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
7
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the
soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make
known unto me the interpretation thereof.
• • •
18
This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar,
declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
• • •
34
And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
• • •
36
At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
11
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12
Then said he unto me,
Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine
heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words
were heard, and I am come for thy words.
• • •
15
And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.
• • •
19
And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.
6
¶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and
want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
• • •
8
So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
9
I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your
vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the
palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
10
I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your
young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses;
and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
11
I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.
1
Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
• • •
4
¶ Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
• • •
8
And the Lord said unto me,
Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord,
Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will
not again pass by them any more:
• • •
15
And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
3
Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.
4
Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.
• • •
9
Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.
• • •
14
So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
2
And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
• • •
5
Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
6
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
• • •
8
Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
7
And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
8
And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.
• • •
10
And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.
• • •
13
Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
• • •
18
And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
• • •
21
And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.
11
And the Spirit said unto me
again: Behold the Lord hath delivered him into thy hands. Yea, and I
also knew that he had sought to take away mine own life; yea, and he
would not hearken unto the commandments of the Lord; and he also had taken away our property.
12
And it came to pass that the Spirit said unto me again: Slay him, for the Lord hath delivered him into thy hands;
• • •
14
And now, when I, Nephi, had heard these words, I remembered the words of the Lord which he spake unto me in the wilderness, saying that: Inasmuch as thy seed shall keep my commandments, they shall prosper in the land of promise.
• • •
22
And he spake unto me concerning the elders of the Jews, he knowing that his master, Laban, had been out by night among them.
• • •
27
And he spake unto me many times concerning the elders of the Jews, as I went forth unto my brethren, who were without the walls.
1 Ne. 11: 1-2, 4, 8-12, 14, 16, 18-19, 21, 23-24, 26, 30-32, 35-36
1
For it came to pass after I had desired to know the things that
my father had seen, and believing that the Lord was able to make them
known unto me, as I
sat pondering in mine heart I was caught away in the Spirit of the Lord,
yea, into an exceedingly high mountain, which I never had before seen,
and upon which I never had before set my foot.
2
And the Spirit said unto me: Behold, what desirest thou?
• • •
4
And the Spirit said unto me: Believest thou that thy father saw the tree of which he hath spoken?
• • •
8
And it came to pass that the Spirit said unto me: Look! And I looked and beheld a tree; and it was like unto
the tree which my father had seen; and the beauty thereof was far
beyond, yea, exceeding of all beauty; and the whiteness thereof did
exceed the whiteness of the driven snow.
9
And it came to pass after I had seen the tree, I said unto the Spirit: I behold thou hast shown unto me the tree which is precious above all.
10
And he said unto me: What desirest thou?
11
And I said unto him: To know the interpretation thereof—for I spake unto
him as a man speaketh; for I beheld that he was in the form of a man;
yet nevertheless, I knew that it was the Spirit of the Lord; and he
spake unto me as a man speaketh with another.
12
And it came to pass that he said unto me: Look! And I looked as if to look upon him, and I saw him not; for he had gone from before my presence.
• • •
14
And it came to pass that I saw the heavens open; and an angel came down and stood before me; and he said unto me: Nephi, what beholdest thou?
• • •
16
And he said unto me: Knowest thou the condescension of God?
• • •
18
And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.
19
And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the
Spirit; and after she had been carried away in the Spirit for the space
of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!
• • •
21
And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father! Knowest thou the meaning of the tree which thy father saw?
• • •
23
And he spake unto me, saying: Yea, and the most joyous to the soul.
24
And after he had said these words, he said unto me:
Look! And I looked, and I beheld the Son of God going forth among the
children of men; and I saw many fall down at his feet and worship him.
• • •
26
And the angel said unto me again: Look and behold the condescension of God!
• • •
30
And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me
again, saying: Look! And I looked, and I beheld the heavens open
again, and I saw angels descending upon the children of men; and they
did minister unto them.
31
And he spake unto me
again, saying: Look! And I looked, and I beheld the Lamb of God going
forth among the children of men. And I beheld multitudes of people who
were sick, and who were afflicted with all manner of diseases, and with
devils and unclean spirits; and the angel spake and showed all these
things unto me. And they were healed by the power of the Lamb of God; and the devils and the unclean spirits were cast out.
32
And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me
again, saying: Look! And I looked and beheld the Lamb of God, that he
was taken by the people; yea, the Son of the everlasting God was judged
of the world; and I saw and bear record.
• • •
35
And the multitude of the earth was gathered together; and I beheld that they were in a large and spacious building, like unto the building which my father saw. And the angel of the Lord spake unto me
again, saying: Behold the world and the wisdom thereof; yea, behold the
house of Israel hath gathered together to fight against the twelve
apostles of the Lamb.
36
And it came to pass that I saw and bear record, that the great and
spacious building was the pride of the world; and it fell, and the fall
thereof was exceedingly great. And the angel of the Lord spake unto me
again, saying: Thus shall be the destruction of all nations, kindreds,
tongues, and people, that shall fight against the twelve apostles of the
Lamb.
1
And it came to pass that the angel said unto me:
Look, and behold thy seed, and also the seed of thy brethren. And I
looked and beheld the land of promise; and I beheld multitudes of
people, yea, even as it were in number as many as the sand of the sea.
• • •
8
And the angel spake unto me, saying: Behold the Twelve Disciples of the Lamb, who are chosen to minister unto thy seed.
9
And he said unto me:
Thou rememberest the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb? Behold they are they
who shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, the twelve
ministers of thy seed shall be judged of them; for ye are of the house
of Israel.
• • •
11
And the angel said unto me: Look! And I looked, and beheld three generations pass away in righteousness; and their garments were white even like unto the Lamb of God. And the angel said unto me: These are made white in the blood of the Lamb, because of their faith in him.
• • •
14
And the angel said unto me: Behold thy seed, and also the seed of thy brethren.
• • •
16
And the angel spake unto me,
saying: Behold the fountain of filthy water which thy father saw; yea,
even the river of which he spake; and the depths thereof are the depths
of hell.
• • •
22
And the angel said unto me: Behold these shall dwindle in unbelief.
1
And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me, saying: Look! And I looked and beheld many nations and kingdoms.
2
And the angel said unto me: What beholdest thou? And I said: I behold many nations and kingdoms.
3
And he said unto me: These are the nations and kingdoms of the Gentiles.
• • •
5
And the angel said unto me:
Behold the formation of a church which is most abominable above all
other churches, which slayeth the saints of God, yea, and tortureth them
and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron, and
bringeth them down into captivity.
• • •
8
And the angel spake unto me,
saying: Behold the gold, and the silver, and the silks, and the
scarlets, and the fine-twined linen, and the precious clothing, and the
harlots, are the desires of this great and abominable church.
• • •
11
And it came to pass that the angel said unto me: Behold the wrath of God is upon the seed of thy brethren.
• • •
21
And the angel said unto me: Knowest thou the meaning of the book?
• • •
23
And he said: Behold it proceedeth out of the mouth of a Jew. And I, Nephi, beheld it; and he said unto me: The book that thou beholdest is a record of the Jews, which contains the covenants of the Lord, which he hath made unto the house of Israel; and it also containeth many of the prophecies of the holy prophets; and it is a record like unto
the engravings which are upon the plates of brass, save there are not
so many; nevertheless, they contain the covenants of the Lord, which he
hath made unto the house of Israel; wherefore, they are of great worth unto the Gentiles.
24
And the angel of the Lord said unto me:
Thou hast beheld that the book proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew;
and when it proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew it contained the
fulness of the gospel of the Lord, of whom the twelve apostles bear
record; and they bear record according to the truth which is in the Lamb
of God.
• • •
34
And it came to pass that the angel of the Lord spake unto me,
saying: Behold, saith the Lamb of God, after I have visited the remnant
of the house of Israel—and this remnant of whom I speak is the seed of
thy father—wherefore, after I have visited them in judgment, and smitten
them by the hand of the Gentiles, and after the Gentiles do stumble
exceedingly, because of the most plain and precious parts of the gospel
of the Lamb which have been kept back by that abominable church, which
is the mother of harlots, saith the Lamb—I will be merciful unto the Gentiles in that day, insomuch that I will bring forth unto them, in mine own power, much of my gospel, which shall be plain and precious, saith the Lamb.
• • •
40
And the angel spake unto me,
saying: These last records, which thou hast seen among the Gentiles,
shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles
of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which
have been taken away from them; and shall make known to all kindreds,
tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal
Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved.
5
And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me,
Nephi, saying: Thou hast beheld that if the Gentiles repent it shall be
well with them; and thou also knowest concerning the covenants of the
Lord unto the house of Israel; and thou also hast heard that whoso repenteth not must perish.
• • •
8
And it came to pass that when the angel had spoken these words, he said unto me: Rememberest thou the covenants of the Father unto the house of Israel? I said unto him, Yea.
9
And it came to pass that he said unto me: Look, and behold that great and abominable church, which is the mother of abominations, whose founder is the devil.
10
And he said unto me:
Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the
Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso
belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great
church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all
the earth.
• • •
16
And as there began to be wars and rumors of wars among all the nations
which belonged to the mother of abominations, the angel spake unto me, saying: Behold, the wrath of God is upon the mother of harlots; and behold, thou seest all these things—
• • •
18
And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!
• • •
20
And the angel said unto me: Behold one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
• • •
29
And I bear record that I saw the things which my father saw, and the angel of the Lord did make them known unto me.
7
And it came to pass that after I, Nephi, had been in the land of
Bountiful for the space of many days, the voice of the Lord came unto me, saying: Arise, and get thee into the mountain. And it came to pass that I arose and went up into the mountain, and cried unto the Lord.
8
And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me,
saying: Thou shalt construct a ship, after the manner which I shall
show thee, that I may carry thy people across these waters.
9
And I said: Lord, whither shall I go that I may find ore to molten, that
I may make tools to construct the ship after the manner which thou hast
shown unto me?
• • •
53
And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me: Stretch forth thine hand again unto
thy brethren, and they shall not wither before thee, but I will shock
them, saith the Lord, and this will I do, that they may know that I am
the Lord their God.
7
Yea, Joseph truly said: Thus saith the Lord unto me:
A choice seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and he
shall be esteemed highly among the fruit of thy loins. And unto him will I give commandment that he shall do a work for the fruit of thy loins, his brethren, which shall be of great worth unto them, even to the bringing of them to the knowledge of the covenants which I have made with thy fathers.
• • •
15
And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring my people unto salvation.
16
Yea, thus prophesied Joseph: I am sure of this thing, even as I am sure of the promise of Moses; for the Lord hath said unto me, I will preserve thy seed forever.
• • •
18
And the Lord said unto me also: I will raise up unto the fruit of thy loins; and I will make for him a spokesman. And I, behold, I will give unto him that he shall write the writing of the fruit of thy loins, unto the fruit of thy loins; and the spokesman of thy loins shall declare it.
2
For behold, the promises which we have obtained are promises unto us according to the flesh; wherefore, as it has been shown unto me that many of our children shall perish in the flesh because of unbelief, nevertheless, God will be merciful unto many; and our children shall be restored, that they may come to that which will give them the true knowledge of their Redeemer.
3
Wherefore, as I said unto you, it must needs be expedient that Christ—for in the last night the angel spake unto me
that this should be his name—should come among the Jews, among those
who are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify
him—for thus it behooveth our God, and there is none other nation on
earth that would crucify their God.
• • •
19
Wherefore, I will consecrate this land unto
thy seed, and them who shall be numbered among thy seed, forever, for
the land of their inheritance; for it is a choice land, saith God unto me, above all other lands, wherefore I will have all men that dwell thereon that they shall worship me, saith God.
4
Wherefore, I would that ye should remember that I have spoken unto you concerning that prophet which the Lord showed unto me, that should baptize the Lamb of God, which should take away the sins of the world.
• • •
12
And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do.
• • •
14
But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying: After ye have repented of your sins, and witnessed unto
the Father that ye are willing to keep my commandments, by the baptism
of water, and have received the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost,
and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the tongue of angels,
and after this should deny me, it would have been better for you that ye had not known me.
• • •
17
Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your
Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been
shown unto me, that
ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which
ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a
remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.
5
But behold, hearken ye unto me,
and know that by the help of the all-powerful Creator of heaven and
earth I can tell you concerning your thoughts, how that ye are beginning
to labor in sin, which sin appeareth very abominable unto me, yea, and abominable unto God.
• • •
11
Wherefore, I must tell you the truth according to the plainness of the
word of God. For behold, as I inquired of the Lord, thus came the word unto me, saying: Jacob, get thou up into the temple on the morrow, and declare the word which I shall give thee unto this people.
• • •
25
Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the
land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
• • •
30
For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
• • •
32
And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the
fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of
Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.
7
And it came to pass that the master of the vineyard saw it, and he said unto his servant: It grieveth me that I should lose this tree; wherefore, go and pluck the branches from a wild olive-tree, and bring them hither unto me;
and we will pluck off those main branches which are beginning to wither
away, and we will cast them into the fire that they may be burned.
• • •
43
And behold this last, whose branch hath withered away, I did plant in a good spot of ground; yea, even that which was choice unto me above all other parts of the land of my vineyard.
• • •
54
And, behold, the roots of the natural branches of the tree which I
planted whithersoever I would are yet alive; wherefore, that I may
preserve them also for mine own purpose, I will take of the branches of
this tree, and I will graft them in unto them. Yea, I will graft in unto them the branches of their mother tree, that I may preserve the roots also unto mine own self, that when they shall be sufficiently strong perhaps they may bring forth good fruit unto me, and I may yet have glory in the fruit of my vineyard.
• • •
75
And it came to pass that when the Lord of the vineyard saw that his
fruit was good, and that his vineyard was no more corrupt, he called up
his servants, and said unto them: Behold, for
this last time have we nourished my vineyard; and thou beholdest that I
have done according to my will; and I have preserved the natural fruit,
that it is good, even like as it was in the beginning. And blessed art
thou; for because ye have been diligent in laboring with me in my vineyard, and have kept my commandments, and have brought unto me again the natural fruit, that my vineyard is no more corrupted, and the bad is cast away, behold ye shall have joy with me because of the fruit of my vineyard.
3
And he labored diligently that he might lead away the hearts of the
people, insomuch that he did lead away many hearts; and he knowing that
I, Jacob, had faith in Christ who should come, he sought much
opportunity that he might come unto me.
• • •
5
And he had hope to shake me from the faith,
notwithstanding the many revelations and the many things which I had
seen concerning these things; for I truly had seen angels, and they had
ministered unto me. And also, I had heard the voice of the Lord speaking unto me in very word, from time to time; wherefore, I could not be shaken.
6
And it came to pass that he came unto me, and on this wise did he speak unto me, saying: Brother Jacob, I have sought much opportunity that I might speak unto
you; for I have heard and also know that thou goest about much,
preaching that which ye call the gospel, or the doctrine of Christ.
• • •
12
And this is not all—it has been made manifest unto me, for I have heard and seen; and it also has been made manifest unto me by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, I know if there should be no atonement made all mankind must be lost.
13
And it came to pass that he said unto me: Show me a sign by this power of the Holy Ghost, in the which ye know so much.
• • •
22
Now, this thing was pleasing unto me, Jacob, for I had requested it of my Father who was in heaven; for he had heard my cry and answered my prayer.
5
And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.
• • •
8
And he said unto me:
Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor
seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the
flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.
• • •
12
And it came to pass that after I had prayed and labored with all diligence, the Lord said unto me: I will grant unto thee according to thy desires, because of thy faith.
• • •
15
Wherefore, I knowing that the Lord God was able to preserve our records, I cried unto him continually, for he had said unto me: Whatsoever thing ye shall ask in faith, believing that ye shall receive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it.
• • •
18
And the Lord said unto me: Thy fathers have also required of me this thing; and it shall be done unto them according to their faith; for their faith was like unto thine.
• • •
27
And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I
know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal
shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see
his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen.
16
I say unto you, can you imagine to yourselves that ye hear the voice of the Lord, saying unto you, in that day: Come unto me ye blessed, for behold, your works have been the works of righteousness upon the face of the earth?
• • •
34
Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of life freely;
35
Yea, come unto me and bring forth works of righteousness, and ye shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire—
• • •
46
Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me
by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days
that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself
that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me.
47
And moreover, I say unto you that it has thus been revealed unto me, that the words which have been spoken by our fathers are true, even so according to the spirit of prophecy which is in me, which is also by the manifestation of the Spirit of God.
• • •
51
And also the Spirit saith unto me, yea, crieth unto me with a mighty voice, saying: Go forth and say unto this people—Repent, for except ye repent ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of heaven.
7
As I was journeying to see a very near kindred, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto me
and said: Amulek, return to thine own house, for thou shalt feed a
prophet of the Lord; yea, a holy man, who is a chosen man of God; for he
has fasted many days because of the sins of this people, and he is an
hungered, and thou shalt receive him into thy house and feed him, and he
shall bless thee and thy house; and the blessing of the Lord shall rest
upon thee and thy house.
8
And it came to pass that I obeyed the voice of the angel, and returned
towards my house. And as I was going thither I found the man whom the
angel said unto me: Thou shalt receive into thy house—and behold it was this same man who has been speaking unto you concerning the things of God.
9
And the angel said unto me he is a holy man; wherefore I know he is a holy man because it was said by an angel of God.
10
And again, I know that the things whereof he hath testified are true; for behold I say unto you, that as the Lord liveth, even so has he sent his angel to make these things manifest unto me; and this he has done while this Alma hath dwelt at my house.
4
Now Lamoni said unto Ammon: I know, in the
strength of the Lord thou canst do all things. But behold, I will go
with thee to the land of Middoni; for the king of the land of Middoni,
whose name is Antiomno, is a friend unto me;
therefore I go to the land of Middoni, that I may flatter the king of
the land, and he will cast thy brethren out of prison. Now Lamoni said unto him: Who told thee that thy brethren were in prison?
5
And Ammon said unto him: No one hath told me, save it be God; and he said unto me—Go and deliver thy brethren, for they are in prison in the land of Middoni.
• • •
22
But Ammon raised his sword, and said unto him: Behold, I will smite thee except thou wilt grant unto me that my brethren may be cast out of prison.
• • •
27
And I will also grant unto thee that thy brethren may be cast out of prison, and thou and thy brethren may come unto me,
in my kingdom; for I shall greatly desire to see thee. For the king
was greatly astonished at the words which he had spoken, and also at the
words which had been spoken by his son Lamoni, therefore he was
desirous to learn them.
43
And now Korihor said unto Alma: If thou wilt show me a sign, that I may be convinced that there is a God, yea, show unto me that he hath power, and then will I be convinced of the truth of thy words.
44
But Alma said unto him: Thou hast had signs enough; will ye tempt your God? Will ye say, Show unto me
a sign, when ye have the testimony of all these thy brethren, and also
all the holy prophets? The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and
all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things
that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the
planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a
Supreme Creator.
• • •
53
But behold, the devil hath deceived me; for he appeared unto me in the form of an angel, and said unto me: Go and reclaim this people, for they have all gone astray after an unknown God. And he said unto me: There is no God; yea, and he taught me that which I should say. And I have taught his words; and I taught them because they were pleasing unto
the carnal mind; and I taught them, even until I had much success,
insomuch that I verily believed that they were true; and for this cause I
withstood the truth, even until I have brought this great curse upon me.
5
Now, behold, I say unto you, if I had not been
born of God I should not have known these things; but God has, by the
mouth of his holy angel, made these things known unto me, not of any worthiness of myself;
• • •
8
But behold, the voice said unto me: Arise. And I arose and stood up, and beheld the angel.
9
And he said unto me: If thou wilt of thyself be destroyed, seek no more to destroy the church of God.
• • •
11
And the angel spake more things unto me,
which were heard by my brethren, but I did not hear them; for when I
heard the words—If thou wilt be destroyed of thyself, seek no more to
destroy the church of God—I was struck with such great fear and
amazement lest perhaps I should be destroyed, that I fell to the earth
and I did hear no more.
• • •
26
For because of the word which he has imparted unto me,
behold, many have been born of God, and have tasted as I have tasted,
and have seen eye to eye as I have seen; therefore they do know of these
things of which I have spoken, as I do know; and the knowledge which I
have is of God.
25
And except ye grant mine epistle, and come out and show unto me a true spirit of freedom, and strive to strengthen and fortify our armies, and grant unto
them food for their support, behold I will leave a part of my freemen
to maintain this part of our land, and I will leave the strength and the
blessings of God upon them, that none other power can operate against
them—
• • •
33
Ye know that ye do transgress the laws of God, and ye do know that ye do trample them under your feet. Behold, the Lord saith unto me:
If those whom ye have appointed your governors do not repent of their
sins and iniquities, ye shall go up to battle against them.
34
And now behold, I, Moroni, am constrained, according to the covenant
which I have made to keep the commandments of my God; therefore I would
that ye should adhere to the word of God, and send speedily unto me of your provisions and of your men, and also to Helaman.
7
And behold, an angel of the Lord hath declared it unto me, and he did bring glad tidings to my soul. And behold, I was sent unto you to declare it unto you also, that ye might have glad tidings; but behold ye would not receive me.
• • •
11
But if ye will repent and return unto the Lord
your God I will turn away mine anger, saith the Lord; yea, thus saith
the Lord, blessed are they who will repent and turn unto me, but wo unto him that repenteth not.
• • •
19
For I will, saith the Lord, that they shall hide up their treasures unto me; and cursed be they who hide not up their treasures unto me; for none hideth up their treasures unto me save it be the righteous; and he that hideth not up his treasures unto me, cursed is he, and also the treasure, and none shall redeem it because of the curse of the land.
20
And the day shall come that they shall hide up their treasures, because
they have set their hearts upon riches; and because they have set their
hearts upon their riches, and will hide up their treasures when they
shall flee before their enemies; because they will not hide them up unto me, cursed be they and also their treasures; and in that day shall they be smitten, saith the Lord.
5
And behold, that great city Moronihah have I covered with earth, and the
inhabitants thereof, to hide their iniquities and their abominations
from before my face, that the blood of the prophets and the saints shall
not come any more unto me against them.
• • •
7
Yea, and the city of Onihah and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of
Mocum and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Jerusalem and the
inhabitants thereof; and waters have I caused to come up in the stead
thereof, to hide their wickedness and abominations from before my face,
that the blood of the prophets and the saints shall not come up any more
unto me against them.
8
And behold, the city of Gadiandi, and the city of Gadiomnah, and the
city of Jacob, and the city of Gimgimno, all these have I caused to be
sunk, and made hills and valleys in the places thereof; and the
inhabitants thereof have I buried up in the depths of the earth, to hide
their wickedness and abominations from before my face, that the blood
of the prophets and the saints should not come up any more unto me against them.
9
And behold, that great city Jacobugath, which was inhabited by the
people of king Jacob, have I caused to be burned with fire because of
their sins and their wickedness, which was above all the wickedness of
the whole earth, because of their secret murders and combinations; for
it was they that did destroy the peace of my people and the government
of the land; therefore I did cause them to be burned, to destroy them
from before my face, that the blood of the prophets and the saints
should not come up unto me any more against them.
• • •
11
And because they did cast them all out, that there were none righteous
among them, I did send down fire and destroy them, that their wickedness
and abominations might be hid from before my face, that the blood of
the prophets and the saints whom I sent among them might not cry unto me from the ground against them.
• • •
13
O all ye that are spared because ye were more righteous than they, will ye not now return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted, that I may heal you?
14
Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me
ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended
towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed
are those who come unto me.
• • •
19
And ye shall offer up unto me
no more the shedding of blood; yea, your sacrifices and your burnt
offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices
and your burnt offerings.
20
And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me
with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire
and with the Holy Ghost, even as the Lamanites, because of their faith
in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not.
• • •
22
Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me
as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of
God. Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up
again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved.
3
Yea, blessed are the poor in spirit who come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
• • •
19
And behold, I have given you the law and the commandments of my Father, that ye shall believe in me, and that ye shall repent of your sins, and come unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Behold, ye have the commandments before you, and the law is fulfilled.
20
Therefore come unto me and be ye saved; for verily I say unto
you, that except ye shall keep my commandments, which I have commanded
you at this time, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
• • •
23
Therefore, if ye shall come unto me, or shall desire to come unto me, and rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee—
24
Go thy way unto thy brother, and first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come unto me with full purpose of heart, and I will receive you.
2
And it came to pass that the Lord did say unto me: Cry unto this people—Repent ye, and come unto me, and be ye baptized, and build up again my church, and ye shall be spared.
• • •
4
And it came to pass that after this tenth year had passed away, making,
in the whole, three hundred and sixty years from the coming of Christ,
the king of the Lamanites sent an epistle unto me, which gave unto me to know that they were preparing to come again to battle against us.
• • •
14
And when they had sworn by all that had been forbidden them by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that they would go up unto their enemies to battle, and avenge themselves of the blood of their brethren, behold the voice of the Lord came unto me, saying:
• • •
20
And these things doth the Spirit manifest unto me; therefore I write unto you all. And for this cause I write unto
you, that ye may know that ye must all stand before the judgment-seat
of Christ, yea, every soul who belongs to the whole human family of
Adam; and ye must stand to be judged of your works, whether they be good
or evil;
10
And now, therefore, let my father send for Akish, the son of Kimnor; and
behold, I am fair, and I will dance before him, and I will please him,
that he will desire me to wife; wherefore if he shall desire of thee that ye shall give unto him me to wife, then shall ye say: I will give her if ye will bring unto me the head of my father, the king.
11
And now Omer was a friend to Akish; wherefore, when Jared had sent for
Akish, the daughter of Jared danced before him that she pleased him,
insomuch that he desired her to wife. And it came to pass that he said unto Jared: Give her unto me to wife.
12
And Jared said unto him: I will give her unto you, if ye will bring unto me the head of my father, the king.
13
And it came to pass that Akish gathered in unto the house of Jared all his kinsfolk, and said unto them: Will ye swear unto me that ye will be faithful unto me in the thing which I shall desire of you?
• • •
20
And now I, Moroni, do not write the manner of their oaths and combinations, for it hath been made known unto me that they are had among all people, and they are had among the Lamanites.
26
And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me,
saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient
for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness;
27
And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
28
Behold, I will show unto the Gentiles their weakness, and I will show unto them that faith, hope and charity bringeth unto me—the fountain of all righteousness.
• • •
37
And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me: If they have not charity it mattereth not unto
thee, thou hast been faithful; wherefore, thy garments shall be made
clean. And because thou hast seen thy weakness thou shalt be made
strong, even unto the sitting down in the place which I have prepared in the mansions of my Father.
25
And then he shall say unto the people of this generation: Behold, I have seen the things which the Lord hath shown unto Joseph Smith, Jun., and I know of a surety that they are true, for I have seen them, for they have been shown unto me by the power of God and not of man.
26
And I the Lord command him, my servant Martin Harris, that he shall say no more unto them concerning these things, except he shall say: I have seen them, and they have been shown unto me by the power of God; and these are the words which he shall say.
• • •
28
And now, except he humble himself and acknowledge unto me the things that he has done which are wrong, and covenant with me that he will keep my commandments, and exercise faith in me, behold, I say unto him, he shall have no such views, for I will grant unto him no views of the things of which I have spoken.
31
And inasmuch as ye impart of your substance unto the poor, ye will do it unto me;
and they shall be laid before the bishop of my church and his
counselors, two of the elders, or high priests, such as he shall appoint
or has appointed and set apart for that purpose.
32
And it shall come to pass, that after they are laid before the bishop of
my church, and after that he has received these testimonies concerning
the consecration of the properties of my church, that they cannot be
taken from the church, agreeable to my commandments, every man shall be
made accountable unto me,
a steward over his own property, or that which he has received by
consecration, as much as is sufficient for himself and family.
• • •
37
And it shall come to pass, that he that sinneth and repenteth not shall
be cast out of the church, and shall not receive again that which he has
consecrated unto the poor and the needy of my church, or in other words, unto me—
38
For inasmuch as ye do it unto the least of these, ye do it unto me.
• • •
44
And the elders of the church, two or more, shall be called, and shall
pray for and lay their hands upon them in my name; and if they die they
shall die unto me, and if they live they shall live unto me.
30
For this ordinance belongeth to my house, and cannot be acceptable to me, only in the days of your poverty, wherein ye are not able to build a house unto me.
31
But I command you, all ye my saints, to build a house unto me; and I grant unto you a sufficient time to build a house unto me; and during this time your baptisms shall be acceptable unto me.
32
But behold, at the end of this appointment your baptisms for your dead shall not be acceptable unto me;
and if you do not these things at the end of the appointment ye shall
be rejected as a church, with your dead, saith the Lord your God.
33
For verily I say unto you, that after you have had sufficient time to build a house to me,
wherein the ordinance of baptizing for the dead belongeth, and for
which the same was instituted from before the foundation of the world,
your baptisms for your dead cannot be acceptable unto me;
• • •
35
And after this time, your baptisms for the dead, by those who are scattered abroad, are not acceptable unto me, saith the Lord.
• • •
37
And again, verily I say unto you, how shall your washings be acceptable unto me, except ye perform them in a house which you have built to my name?
• • •
55
And again, verily I say unto you, I command you again to build a house to my name, even in this place, that you may prove yourselves unto me
that ye are faithful in all things whatsoever I command you, that I may
bless you, and crown you with honor, immortality, and eternal life.
• • •
75
And let him lift up his voice long and loud, in the midst of the people,
to plead the cause of the poor and the needy; and let him not fail,
neither let his heart faint; and I will accept of his offerings, for
they shall not be unto me as the offerings of Cain, for he shall be mine, saith the Lord.
• • •
86
If they live here let them live unto me; and if they die let them die unto me; for they shall rest from all their labors here, and shall continue their works.
• • •
104
And if he will offer unto me
an acceptable offering, and acknowledgments, and remain with my people,
behold, I, the Lord your God, will heal him that he shall be healed;
and he shall lift up his voice again on the mountains, and be a
spokesman before my face.
15
Blessed be the name of my God, for his Spirit hath not altogether withdrawn from me, or else where is thy glory, for it is darkness unto me? And I can judge between thee and God; for God said unto me: Worship God, for him only shalt thou serve.
16
Get thee hence, Satan; deceive me not; for God said unto me: Thou art after the similitude of mine Only Begotten.
17
And he also gave me commandments when he called unto me out of the burning bush, saying: Call upon God in the name of mine Only Begotten, and worship me.

But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto
you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the
word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable
are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.
• • •
37
And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying: The heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine.
4
And I saw the Lord; and he stood before my face, and he talked with me, even as a man talketh one with another, face to face; and he said unto me: Look, and I will show unto thee the world for the space of many generations.
• • •
6
And again the Lord said unto me: Look; and I looked towards the north, and I beheld the people of Canaan, which dwelt in tents.
7
And the Lord said unto me:
Prophesy; and I prophesied, saying: Behold the people of Canaan, which
are numerous, shall go forth in battle array against the people of Shum,
and shall slay them that they shall utterly be destroyed; and the
people of Canaan shall divide themselves in the land, and the land shall
be barren and unfruitful, and none other people shall dwell there but
the people of Canaan;
• • •
9
And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me:
Look; and I looked, and I beheld the land of Sharon, and the land of
Enoch, and the land of Omner, and the land of Heni, and the land of
Shem, and the land of Haner, and the land of Hanannihah, and all the
inhabitants thereof;
10
And the Lord said unto me: Go to this people, and say unto them—Repent, lest I come out and smite them with a curse, and they die.
11
And he gave unto me a
commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, which is full of grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost, which
beareth record of the Father and the Son.
• • •
39
And That which I have chosen hath pled before my face. Wherefore, he
suffereth for their sins; inasmuch as they will repent in the day that
my Chosen shall return unto me, and until that day they shall be in torment;

And Enoch beheld the Son of Man ascend up unto the Father; and he called unto the Lord, saying: Wilt thou not come again upon the earth? Forasmuch as thou art God, and I know thee, and thou hast sworn unto me, and commanded me that I should ask in the name of thine Only Begotten; thou hast made me, and given unto me
a right to thy throne, and not of myself, but through thine own grace;
wherefore, I ask thee if thou wilt not come again on the earth.
3
It was conferred upon me from the fathers; it
came down from the fathers, from the beginning of time, yea, even from
the beginning, or before the foundation of the earth, down to the
present time, even the right of the firstborn, or the first man, who is
Adam, or first father, through the fathers unto me.

16
And his voice was unto me:
Abraham, Abraham, behold, my name is Jehovah, and I have heard thee,
and have come down to deliver thee, and to take thee away from thy
father’s house, and from all thy kinsfolk, into a strange land which
thou knowest not of;
• • •
29
Now, after the priest of Elkenah was smitten that he died, there came a fulfilment of those things which were said unto me concerning the land of Chaldea, that there should be a famine in the land.
3
Now the Lord had said unto me: Abraham, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee.
• • •
6
But I, Abraham, and Lot, my brother’s son, prayed unto the Lord, and the Lord appeared unto me, and said unto me:
Arise, and take Lot with thee; for I have purposed to take thee away
out of Haran, and to make of thee a minister to bear my name in a
strange land which I will give unto thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession, when they hearken to my voice.
• • •
14
So I, Abraham, departed as the Lord had said unto me, and Lot with me; and I, Abraham, was sixty and two years old when I departed out of Haran.
• • •
19
And the Lord appeared unto me in answer to my prayers, and said unto me: Unto thy seed will I give this land.
• • •
22
And it came to pass when I was come near to enter into Egypt, the Lord said unto me: Behold, Sarai, thy wife, is a very fair woman to look upon;
• • •
25
And it came to pass that I, Abraham, told Sarai, my wife, all that the Lord had said unto me—Therefore say unto them, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake, and my soul shall live because of thee.
1
And I, Abraham, had the Urim and Thummim, which the Lord my God had given unto me, in Ur of the Chaldees;
• • •
3
And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me,
for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those
which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.
4
And the Lord said unto me,
by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lord,
according to its times and seasons in the revolutions thereof; that one
revolution was a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. This is the reckoning of the Lord’s time, according to the reckoning of Kolob.
5
And the Lord said unto me:
The planet which is the lesser light, lesser than that which is to rule
the day, even the night, is above or greater than that upon which thou
standest in point of reckoning, for it moveth in order more slow; this
is in order because it standeth above the earth upon which thou
standest, therefore the reckoning of its time is not so many as to its
number of days, and of months, and of years.
6
And the Lord said unto me: Now, Abraham, these two facts exist, behold thine eyes see it; it is given unto
thee to know the times of reckoning, and the set time, yea, the set
time of the earth upon which thou standest, and the set time of the
greater light which is set to rule the day, and the set time of the
lesser light which is set to rule the night.
• • •
12
And he said unto me:
My son, my son (and his hand was stretched out), behold I will show you
all these. And he put his hand upon mine eyes, and I saw those things
which his hands had made, which were many; and they multiplied before
mine eyes, and I could not see the end thereof.
13
And he said unto me: This is Shinehah, which is the sun. And he said unto me: Kokob, which is star. And he said unto me: Olea, which is the moon. And he said unto me: Kokaubeam, which signifies stars, or all the great lights, which were in the firmament of heaven.
14
And it was in the night time when the Lord spake these words unto me: I will multiply thee, and thy seed after thee, like unto these; and if thou canst count the number of sands, so shall be the number of thy seeds.
15
And the Lord said unto me: Abraham, I show these things unto thee before ye go into Egypt, that ye may declare all these words.
16
If two things exist, and there be one above the other, there shall be
greater things above them; therefore Kolob is the greatest of all the
Kokaubeam that thou hast seen, because it is nearest unto me.
• • •
19
And the Lord said unto me:
These two facts do exist, that there are two spirits, one being more
intelligent than the other; there shall be another more intelligent than
they; I am the Lord thy God, I am more intelligent than they all.
• • •
22
Now the Lord had shown unto me,
Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was;
and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;
23
And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst
of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among
those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.
17
It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
• • •
20
He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me,
which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I
found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light
had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I
went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what
the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough
off.” I then said to my mother, “I have learned for myself that
Presbyterianism is not true.” It seems as though the adversary was
aware, at a very early period of my life, that I was destined to prove a
disturber and an annoyer of his kingdom; else why should the powers of
darkness combine against me? Why the opposition and persecution that arose against me, almost in my infancy?
• • •
33
He called me by name, and said unto me that he was a messenger sent from the presence of God to me, and that his name was Moroni; that God had a work for me
to do; and that my name should be had for good and evil among all
nations, kindreds, and tongues, or that it should be both good and evil
spoken of among all people.
• • •
49
The first thing that I can recollect was a voice speaking unto me, calling me
by name. I looked up, and beheld the same messenger standing over my
head, surrounded by light as before. He then again related unto me all that he had related to me the previous night, and commanded me to go to my father and tell him of the vision and commandments which I had received.
