¶ When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Yea, behold it is now even at your doors; yea, go ye in unto the judgment-seat, and search; and behold, your judge is murdered, and he lieth in his blood; and he hath been murdered by his brother, who seeketh to sitin the judgment-seat.

And also to be a judgein Israel, to do the business of the church, to sitinjudgment
upon transgressors upon testimony as it shall be laid before him
according to the laws, by the assistance of his counselors, whom he has
chosen or will choose among the elders of the church.
