3
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
• • •
11
Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.
• • •
13
Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14
Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
15
Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
2
And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name.
3
And behold, this will I give unto you
for a sign at the time of his coming; for behold, there shall be great
lights in heaven, insomuch that in the night before he cometh there
shall be no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it
was day.
• • •
14
And behold, again, another sign I give unto you, yea, a sign of his death.
• • •
30
And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth,
perisheth unto himself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto
himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for
yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and he hath made you free.
31
He hath given unto you that ye might know good from evil, and he hath given unto you
that ye might choose life or death; and ye can do good and be restored
unto that which is good, or have that which is good restored unto you; or ye can do evil, and have that which is evil restored unto you.
13
Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you
to be the salt of the earth; but if the salt shall lose its savor
wherewith shall the earth be salted? The salt shall be thenceforth good
for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men.
14
Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the light of this people. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
• • •
19
And behold, I have given you
the law and the commandments of my Father, that ye shall believe in me,
and that ye shall repent of your sins, and come unto me with a broken
heart and a contrite spirit. Behold, ye have the commandments before you, and the law is fulfilled.
• • •
29
Behold, I give unto you a commandment, that ye suffer none of these things to enter into your heart;
12
And I give unto you a
commandment that ye shall do these things. And if ye shall always do
these things blessed are ye, for ye are built upon my rock.
• • •
14
Therefore blessed are ye if ye shall keep my commandments, which the Father hath commanded me that I should give unto you.
• • •
20
And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold it shall be given unto you.
• • •
27
Behold verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you another commandment, and then I must go unto my Father that I may fulfil other commandments which he hath given me.
28
And now behold, this is the commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall not suffer any one knowingly to partake of my flesh and blood unworthily, when ye shall minister it;
• • •
34
And I give you these commandments because of the disputations which have been among you. And blessed are ye if ye have no disputations among you.
1
Now, behold, because of the thing which you, my servant Oliver Cowdery, have desired to know of me, I give unto you these words:
• • •
3
And if you know that they are true, behold, I give unto you a commandment, that you rely upon the things which are written;
• • •
37
And now, behold, I give unto you, Oliver Cowdery, and also unto David Whitmer, that you shall search out the Twelve, who shall have the desires of which I have spoken;
• • •
45
Wherefore, the blessings which I give unto you are above all things.
16
And for your salvation I give unto you
a commandment, for I have heard your prayers, and the poor have
complained before me, and the rich have I made, and all flesh is mine,
and I am no respecter of persons.
• • •
18
And I hold forth and deign to give unto you
greater riches, even a land of promise, a land flowing with milk and
honey, upon which there shall be no curse when the Lord cometh;
• • •
27
Behold, this I have given unto you as a parable, and it is even as I am. I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.
• • •
32
Wherefore, for this cause I gave unto you the commandment that ye should go to the Ohio; and there I will give unto you my law; and there you shall be endowed with power from on high;
• • •
39
And if ye seek the riches which it is the will of the Father to give unto you,
ye shall be the richest of all people, for ye shall have the riches of
eternity; and it must needs be that the riches of the earth are mine to give; but beware of pride, lest ye become as the Nephites of old.
40
And again, I say unto you, I give unto you
a commandment, that every man, both elder, priest, teacher, and also
member, go to with his might, with the labor of his hands, to prepare
and accomplish the things which I have commanded.
43
And I now give unto you a commandment to beware concerning yourselves, to give diligent heed to the words of eternal life.
• • •
73
But a commandment I give unto them, that they shall not boast themselves of these things, neither speak them before the world; for these things are given unto you for your profit and for salvation.
• • •
76
But, verily I say unto all those to whom the kingdom has been given—from you
it must be preached unto them, that they shall repent of their former
evil works; for they are to be upbraided for their evil hearts of
unbelief, and your brethren in Zion for their rebellion against you at the time I sent you.
77
And again I say unto you, my friends, for from henceforth I shall call you friends, it is expedient that I give unto you this commandment, that ye become even as my friends in days when I was with them, traveling to preach the gospel in my power;
• • •
85
Neither take ye thought beforehand what ye shall say; but treasure up in
your minds continually the words of life, and it shall be given you in the very hour that portion that shall be meted unto every man.
• • •
89
Whoso receiveth you receiveth me; and the same will feed you, and clothe you, and give you money.
90
And he who feeds you, or clothes you, or gives you money, shall in nowise lose his reward.
4
This Comforter is the promise which I give unto you of eternal life, even the glory of the celestial kingdom;
• • •
11
And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings;
• • •
21
And they who are not sanctified through the law which I have given unto you, even the law of Christ, must inherit another kingdom, even that of a terrestrial kingdom, or that of a telestial kingdom.
• • •
62
And again, verily I say unto you, my friends, I leave these sayings with you to ponder in your hearts, with this commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall call upon me while I am near—
• • •
64
Whatsoever ye ask the Father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is expedient for you;
• • •
74
And I give unto you, who are the first laborers in this last kingdom, a commandment that you
assemble yourselves together, and organize yourselves, and prepare
yourselves, and sanctify yourselves; yea, purify your hearts, and
cleanse your hands and your feet before me, that I may make you clean;
• • •
76
Also, I give unto you a commandment that ye shall continue in prayer and fasting from this time forth.
77
And I give unto you a commandment that you shall teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom.
1
And again, verily I say unto you, my friends, a commandment I give unto you,
that ye shall commence a work of laying out and preparing a beginning
and foundation of the city of the stake of Zion, here in the land of
Kirtland, beginning at my house.
2
And behold, it must be done according to the pattern which I have given unto you.
• • •
5
And there shall be a lower court and a higher court, according to the pattern which shall be given unto you hereafter.
6
And it shall be dedicated unto the Lord from the foundation thereof,
according to the order of the priesthood, according to the pattern which
shall be given unto you hereafter.
• • •
12
And this house shall be wholly dedicated unto the Lord from the
foundation thereof, for the work of the printing, in all things
whatsoever I shall command you, to be holy, undefiled, according to the pattern in all things as it shall be given unto you.
• • •
15
That they may do the work which I have appointed unto them, to be a
committee to build mine houses, according to the commandment, which I,
the Lord God, have given unto you.
16
These two houses are not to be built until I give unto you a commandment concerning them.
17
And now I give unto you no more at this time. Amen.
2
Therefore, follow me, and listen to the counsel which I shall give unto you.
• • •
6
For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say.
7
But a commandment I give unto you, that ye shall declare whatsoever thing ye declare in my name, in solemnity of heart, in the spirit of meekness, in all things.
8
And I give unto you
this promise, that inasmuch as ye do this the Holy Ghost shall be shed
forth in bearing record unto all things whatsoever ye shall say.
• • •
13
And now I give unto you a word concerning Zion. Zion shall be redeemed, although she is chastened for a little season.
1
Verily I say unto you, my friends, behold, I will give unto you a revelation and commandment, that you
may know how to act in the discharge of your duties concerning the
salvation and redemption of your brethren, who have been scattered on
the land of Zion;
• • •
21
Verily, verily I say unto you, that my servant
Joseph Smith, Jun., is the man to whom I likened the servant to whom
the Lord of the vineyard spake in the parable which I have given unto you.
• • •
34
But verily I say unto you, a commandment I give unto you, that ye shall not go up unto the land of Zion until you have obtained a hundred of the strength of my house, to go up with you unto the land of Zion.
35
Therefore, as I said unto you, ask and ye shall receive; pray earnestly that peradventure my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., may go with you,
and preside in the midst of my people, and organize my kingdom upon the
consecrated land, and establish the children of Zion upon the laws and
commandments which have been and which shall be given unto you.
• • •
40
Let my servant Orson Hyde journey with my servant Orson Pratt,
whithersoever my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., shall counsel them, in
obtaining the fulfilment of these commandments which I have given unto you, and leave the residue in my hands. Even so. Amen.
1
Verily I say unto you, my friends, I give unto you
counsel, and a commandment, concerning all the properties which belong
to the order which I commanded to be organized and established, to be a
united order, and an everlasting order for the benefit of my church, and
for the salvation of men until I come—
• • •
10
And I now give unto you power from this very hour, that if any man among you,
of the order, is found a transgressor and repenteth not of the evil,
that ye shall deliver him over unto the buffetings of Satan; and he
shall not have power to bring evil upon you.
11
It is wisdom in me; therefore, a commandment I give unto you, that ye shall organize yourselves and appoint every man his stewardship;
• • •
47
And now, a commandment I give unto you concerning Zion, that you shall no longer be bound as a united order to your brethren of Zion, only on this wise—
• • •
54
And again, a commandment I give unto you concerning your stewardship which I have appointed unto you.
• • •
58
And for this purpose I have commanded you to organize yourselves, even to print my words, the fulness of my scriptures, the revelations which I have given unto you, and which I shall, hereafter, from time to time give unto you—
• • •
82
And inasmuch as ye are humble and faithful and call upon my name, behold, I will give you the victory.
83
I give unto you a promise, that you shall be delivered this once out of your bondage.
• • •
86
I give unto you this privilege, this once; and behold, if you proceed to do the things which I have laid before you,
according to my commandments, all these things are mine, and ye are my
stewards, and the master will not suffer his house to be broken up.
Even so. Amen.
5
For it shall be given you by the Holy Ghost to know my will concerning those kings and authorities, even what shall befall them in a time to come.
• • •
119
And again, verily I say unto you, let no man
pay stock to the quorum of the Nauvoo House unless he shall be a
believer in the Book of Mormon, and the revelations I have given unto you, saith the Lord your God;
• • •
123
Verily I say unto you, I now give unto you
the officers belonging to my Priesthood, that ye may hold the keys
thereof, even the Priesthood which is after the order of Melchizedek,
which is after the order of mine Only Begotten Son.
124
First, I give unto you Hyrum Smith to be a patriarch unto you,
to hold the sealing blessings of my church, even the Holy Spirit of
promise, whereby ye are sealed up unto the day of redemption, that ye
may not fall notwithstanding the hour of temptation that may come upon you.
125
I give unto you my servant Joseph to be a presiding elder over all my church, to be a translator, a revelator, a seer, and prophet.
• • •
127
I give unto you my servant Brigham Young to be a president over the Twelve traveling council;
• • •
131
And again, I say unto you, I give unto you a high council, for the corner-stone of Zion—
• • •
133
And again, I give unto you Don C. Smith to be a president over a quorum of high priests;
• • •
137
And again, I say unto you, I give unto you
John A. Hicks, Samuel Williams, and Jesse Baker, which priesthood is to
preside over the quorum of elders, which quorum is instituted for
standing ministers; nevertheless they may travel, yet they are ordained
to be standing ministers to my church, saith the Lord.
138
And again, I give unto you
Joseph Young, Josiah Butterfield, Daniel Miles, Henry Herriman, Zera
Pulsipher, Levi Hancock, James Foster, to preside over the quorum of
seventies;
• • •
141
And again, I say unto you, I give unto you
Vinson Knight, Samuel H. Smith, and Shadrach Roundy, if he will receive
it, to preside over the bishopric; a knowledge of said bishopric is given unto you in the book of Doctrine and Covenants.
• • •
143
The above offices I have given unto you, and the keys thereof, for helps and for governments, for the work of the ministry and the perfecting of my saints.
144
And a commandment I give unto you, that you
should fill all these offices and approve of those names which I have
mentioned, or else disapprove of them at my general conference;
3
Therefore, prepare thy heart to receive and obey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same.
• • •
12
I am the Lord thy God; and I give unto you this commandment—that no man shall come unto the Father but by me or by my word, which is my law, saith the Lord.
• • •
40
I am the Lord thy God, and I gave unto thee, my servant Joseph, an appointment, and restore all things. Ask what ye will, and it shall be given unto you according to my word.
• • •
51
Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to prove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52
And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto
my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be
baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, who is
full of grace and truth, which is Jesus Christ, the only name which
shall be given under heaven, whereby salvation
shall come unto the children of men, ye shall receive the gift of the
Holy Ghost, asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask,
it shall be given you.
• • •
56
And it is given unto them to know good from evil; wherefore they are agents unto themselves, and I have given unto you another law and commandment.
• • •
58
Therefore I give unto you a commandment, to teach these things freely unto your children, saying:
