And he became a great hinderment to the prosperity of the church of God; astealing away the hearts of thepeople; causing much dissensionamongthepeople; giving a chance for the enemy of God to exercise his bpower over them.

For it was his first care to put an end to such contentions and dissensionsamongthepeople; for behold, this had been hitherto a cause of all their destruction. And it came to pass that it was granted according to the voice of thepeople.

And now it came to pass in the forty and third year of the reign of the judges, there was no contention amongthepeople of Nephi save it were a little pride which was in the church, which did cause some little dissensionsamongthepeople, which affairs were settled in the ending of the forty and third year.

And now I return again to mine account; therefore, what I have spoken
had passed after there had been great contentions, and disturbances, and
wars, and dissensions, amongthepeople of Nephi.
