20
And now, my brethren, I have spoken plainly
that ye cannot err. And as the Lord God liveth that brought Israel up
out of the land of Egypt, and gave unto Moses power that he should heal
the nations after they had been bitten by the poisonous serpents, if
they would cast their eyes unto the serpent which he did raise up before
them, and also gave him power that he should smite the rock and the
water should come forth; yea, behold I say
unto you, that as these things are true, and as the Lord God liveth,
there is none other name given under heaven save it be this Jesus
Christ, of which I have spoken, whereby man can be saved.
• • •
29
And now behold, I say
unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not;
and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before
him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your
whole soul; and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out.
2
For behold, I say unto you that I have beheld that many generations shall pass away, and there shall be great wars and contentions among my people.
• • •
25
Behold, doth he cry unto any, saying: Depart from me? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; but he saith: Come unto me all ye ends of the earth, buy milk and honey, without money and without price.
26
Behold, hath he commanded any that they should depart out of the synagogues, or out of the houses of worship? Behold, I say unto you, Nay.
27
Hath he commanded any that they should not partake of his salvation? Behold I say
unto you, Nay; but he hath given it free for all men; and he hath
commanded his people that they should persuade all men to repentance.
28
Behold, hath the Lord commanded any that they should not partake of his goodness? Behold I say unto you, Nay; but all men are privileged the one like unto the other, and none are forbidden.
10
And now I say unto you, who shall declare his generation? Behold, I say unto you, that when his soul has been made an offering for sin he shall see his seed. And now what say ye? And who shall be his seed?
11
Behold I say
unto you, that whosoever has heard the words of the prophets, yea, all
the holy prophets who have prophesied concerning the coming of the Lord—I say
unto you, that all those who have hearkened unto their words, and
believed that the Lord would redeem his people, and have looked forward
to that day for a remission of their sins, I say unto you, that these are his seed, or they are the heirs of the kingdom of God.
• • •
18
And behold, I say
unto you, this is not all. For O how beautiful upon the mountains are
the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that is the founder of
peace, yea, even the Lord, who has redeemed his people; yea, him who has
granted salvation unto his people;
3
I, Alma, having been consecrated by my father,
Alma, to be a high priest over the church of God, he having power and
authority from God to do these things, behold, I say
unto you that he began to establish a church in the land which was in
the borders of Nephi; yea, the land which was called the land of Mormon;
yea, and he did baptize his brethren in the waters of Mormon.
4
And behold, I say unto you, they were delivered out of the hands of the people of king Noah, by the mercy and power of God.
• • •
6
And now behold, I say
unto you, my brethren, you that belong to this church, have you
sufficiently retained in remembrance the captivity of your fathers?
Yea, and have you sufficiently retained in remembrance his mercy and
long-suffering towards them? And moreover, have ye sufficiently
retained in remembrance that he has delivered their souls from hell?
• • •
8
And now I ask of you, my brethren, were they destroyed? Behold, I say unto you, Nay, they were not.
• • •
12
And according to his faith there was a mighty change wrought in his heart. Behold I say unto you that this is all true.
• • •
26
And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
• • •
29
Behold, I say, is there one among you who is not stripped of envy? I say unto you that such an one is not prepared; and I
would that he should prepare quickly, for the hour is close at hand,
and he knoweth not when the time shall come; for such an one is not
found guiltless.
• • •
38
Behold, I say
unto you, that the good shepherd doth call you; yea, and in his own
name he doth call you, which is the name of Christ; and if ye will not
hearken unto the voice of the good shepherd, to the name by which ye are
called, behold, ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd.
39
And now if ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd, of what fold are ye? Behold, I say unto you, that the devil is your shepherd, and ye are of his fold; and now, who can deny this? Behold, I say unto you, whosoever denieth this is a liar and a child of the devil.
• • •
46
Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I
do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them
manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of
revelation which is in me.
12
Behold, now I say unto you that he commandeth you to repent; and except ye repent, ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God. But behold,
this is not all—he has commanded you to repent, or he will utterly
destroy you from off the face of the earth; yea, he will visit you in
his anger, and in his fierce anger he will not turn away.
• • •
18
But behold, I say
unto you that if ye persist in your wickedness that your days shall not
be prolonged in the land, for the Lamanites shall be sent upon you; and
if ye repent not they shall come in a time when you know not, and ye
shall be visited with utter destruction; and it shall be according to
the fierce anger of the Lord.
• • •
23
And now behold I say
unto you, that if this people, who have received so many blessings from
the hand of the Lord, should transgress contrary to the light and
knowledge which they do have, I say
unto you that if this be the case, that if they should fall into
transgression, it would be far more tolerable for the Lamanites than for
them.
6
And behold I say
unto you all that this was a snare of the adversary, which he has laid
to catch this people, that he might bring you into subjection unto him,
that he might encircle you about with his chains, that he might chain
you down to everlasting destruction, according to the power of his
captivity.
• • •
16
And now behold, I say
unto you then cometh a death, even a second death, which is a spiritual
death; then is a time that whosoever dieth in his sins, as to a
temporal death, shall also die a spiritual death; yea, he shall die as
to things pertaining unto righteousness.
• • •
23
And now behold, I say
unto you that if it had been possible for Adam to have partaken of the
fruit of the tree of life at that time, there would have been no death,
and the word would have been void, making God a liar, for he said: If
thou eat thou shalt surely die.
• • •
36
And now, my brethren, behold I say
unto you, that if ye will harden your hearts ye shall not enter into
the rest of the Lord; therefore your iniquity provoketh him that he
sendeth down his wrath upon you as in the first provocation, yea,
according to his word in the last provocation as well as the first, to
the everlasting destruction of your souls; therefore, according to his
word, unto the last death, as well as the first.
1
And now, these are the words of Ammon to his brethren, which say thus: My brothers and my brethren, behold I say
unto you, how great reason have we to rejoice; for could we have
supposed when we started from the land of Zarahemla that God would have
granted unto us such great blessings?
• • •
16
Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will
rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.
• • •
33
And now behold I say unto you, has there been so great love in all the land? Behold, I say unto you, Nay, there has not, even among the Nephites.
10
Behold I say unto you, do ye suppose that ye cannot worship God save it be in your synagogues only?
• • •
18
Now I ask, is this faith? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for if a man knoweth a thing he hath no cause to believe, for he knoweth it.
• • •
20
Now of this thing ye must judge. Behold, I say unto you, that it is on the one hand even as it is on the other; and it shall be unto every man according to his work.
• • •
22
And now, behold, I say unto you, and I
would that ye should remember, that God is merciful unto all who
believe on his name; therefore he desireth, in the first place, that ye
should believe, yea, even on his word.
• • •
36
Behold I say
unto you, Nay; neither must ye lay aside your faith, for ye have only
exercised your faith to plant the seed that ye might try the experiment
to know if the seed was good.
3
And now behold, I say
unto you that myself, and also my men, and also Helaman and his men,
have suffered exceedingly great sufferings; yea, even hunger, thirst,
and fatigue, and all manner of afflictions of every kind.
• • •
14
And now behold, I say unto you, I
fear exceedingly that the judgments of God will come upon this people,
because of their exceeding slothfulness, yea, even the slothfulness of
our government, and their exceedingly great neglect towards their
brethren, yea, towards those who have been slain.
• • •
23
Do ye suppose that God will look upon you as guiltless while ye sit still and behold these things? Behold I say unto you, Nay. Now I
would that ye should remember that God has said that the inward vessel
shall be cleansed first, and then shall the outer vessel be cleansed
also.
4
Behold, I say
unto you that ye would be more miserable to dwell with a holy and just
God, under a consciousness of your filthiness before him, than ye would
to dwell with the damned souls in hell.
• • •
8
Behold I say
unto you, he that denieth these things knoweth not the gospel of
Christ; yea, he has not read the scriptures; if so, he does not
understand them.
• • •
15
And now, O all ye that have imagined up unto yourselves a god who can do no miracles, I would ask of you, have all these things passed, of which I have spoken? Has the end come yet? Behold I say unto you, Nay; and God has not ceased to be a God of miracles.
• • •
19
And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.
• • •
21
Behold, I say
unto you that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever
he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him;
and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth.
29
And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased? Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men.
• • •
37
Behold I say
unto you, Nay; for it is by faith that miracles are wrought; and it is
by faith that angels appear and minister unto men; wherefore, if these
things have ceased wo be unto the children of men, for it is because of
unbelief, and all is vain.
• • •
41
And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say
unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and
the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this
because of your faith in him according to the promise.
• • •
43
And again, behold I say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope, save he shall be meek, and lowly of heart.
1
Behold, I say
unto you, that as my servant Martin Harris has desired a witness at my
hand, that you, my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., have got the plates of
which you have testified and borne record that you have received of me;
• • •
9
Behold, verily I say unto you, I have reserved those things which I have entrusted unto you, my servant Joseph, for a wise purpose in me, and it shall be made known unto future generations;
• • •
24
Behold, I say
unto him, he exalts himself and does not humble himself sufficiently
before me; but if he will bow down before me, and humble himself in
mighty prayer and faith, in the sincerity of his heart, then will I grant unto him a view of the things which he desires to see.
• • •
28
And now, except he humble himself and acknowledge unto me the things
that he has done which are wrong, and covenant with me that he will keep
my commandments, and exercise faith in me, behold, I say unto him, he shall have no such views, for I will grant unto him no views of the things of which I have spoken.
• • •
30
And if this be the case, behold, I say unto thee Joseph, when thou hast translated a few more pages thou shalt stop for a season, even until I command thee again; then thou mayest translate again.
14
But, behold, I say
unto you that before this great day shall come the sun shall be
darkened, and the moon shall be turned into blood, and the stars shall
fall from heaven, and there shall be greater signs in heaven above and
in the earth beneath;
• • •
26
But, behold, verily I say
unto you, before the earth shall pass away, Michael, mine archangel,
shall sound his trump, and then shall all the dead awake, for their
graves shall be opened, and they shall come forth—yea, even all.
• • •
29
And now, behold, I say unto you, never at any time have I declared from mine own mouth that they should return, for where I am they cannot come, for they have no power.
• • •
42
But, behold, I say unto you that I, the Lord God, gave unto Adam and unto his seed, that they should not die as to the temporal death, until I,
the Lord God, should send forth angels to declare unto them repentance
and redemption, through faith on the name of mine Only Begotten Son.
• • •
46
But behold, I say unto you, that little children are redeemed from the foundation of the world through mine Only Begotten;
45
And if my people will hearken unto my voice, and unto the voice of my servants whom I have appointed to lead my people, behold, verily I say unto you, they shall not be moved out of their place.
• • •
62
Behold, verily I say
unto you, let my servant George Miller, and my servant Lyman Wight, and
my servant John Snider, and my servant Peter Haws, organize themselves,
and appoint one of them to be a president over their quorum for the
purpose of building that house.
• • •
102
Behold, I say unto you, I
have a mission in store for my servant William, and my servant Hyrum,
and for them alone; and let my servant Joseph tarry at home, for he is
needed. The remainder I will show unto you hereafter. Even so. Amen.
